51 Hours: What's the Story Behind This Song?

I just recently discovered this song and think it's just amazing, better than anything on Diamonds and Pearls or the Love Symbol album.

Does anyone know any details about it or a link to a good source?
Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. We are Sexually Frustrated what we R... Amen..!!! - zelaire

I actually like this track as well.
It surprised me to find out it was Diamond & Pearl on vocals.
I know they had vinyl pressed for the single but it's a rare find.
It was never officially released.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Here's the story so far. But someone might want to quickly ask Chronic Freeze what he knows about it before he leaves, since this was during his tenure.

a really, really weak and horrid track!, this is NOT amongst the 'holy grail' of long last / bootleg trax. I have a copy on an old compilation cassette and I have not listened to it since around '98!. Reminded me of 'explodin' all over Europe' i.e. another pile of derivitive doo doo!. If you see it for sale PLEASE save your money!.

This track doesn't get much love. I don't think it's that bad. The bootleg copies of it were all absolutely horrible quality. Is it the greatest song? No but it isn't the worst. Jughead anyone? As for being the holy grail, it was for me being a 12" single collector. That article is pretty old as I now have over 200 12" singles from 10 countries.

EDIT:
After reading the original post again, this song isn't better than everything on the "Diamonds and pearls" or "Symbol" albums lol

This is interesting, thanx for posting. What does "51" represent? I realize Prince is 51 years old right now...and I realize he has distant reletives from the "Area 51."

What is the song about?
"The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

No one's mentioned it's "composed and produced by Mark Forester" ???

Sounds like prince lyrics though?

"Composed" means the music, not the lyrics. "Produced" in this case means studio directed.

Lyrically part of the chorus states "for 51 hours you were my slave"

It was from Goldmine magazine. Lisa Wheeler is a member of another forum I am part of called recordcollectorsguild.org. She wrote many articles about high priced rare items. Other articles include stories about The Sex Pistols, Jennifer Warnes etc. etc. Her other articles can be found here:

www.isleofwrite.com

She, herself was a collector of Sex Pistols records and she collects radio station albums. She was a delight to talk to.

That is a sample of Alison Moyet laughing. It is sampled in many, many rap songs.

Thanks so much to squirrelgrease and djdaffy1227..very interesting.

To each his own, I guess: I really like the song. It's very aggressive, catchy and fierce. I stand by my statement. biggrin

I think I have 3 left out of about 10 or 15.... I didn't count them,
I tossed 30 out into the wind to make folks feel there were alot of
trhem for some reason, as if 30 is "alot" smile

Trust me man, I owned each and every single one made.

$200 IS cheap because I have never sold one out for under $350.

I wish I could remember how many were in that box exactly, but I'm
estimating them at around 15 now (I originally said 30).

http://groups.google.com/...6d1fbb9781

Being the person who actually FOUND the box of (actually around 20) 51
Hrs. 12"s. I can verify the legitimacy of the estiimated numbers
known to exist. I still have three or four left and the rest all went
to the more hardcore collectors who then in turn sold them themselves
which is why it looks as if there are a number higher than 20 or so
out there.

Etcetera.

So, is T around anymore... maybe here under a different moniker? You don't need to identify him/her.

Bart,

51 Hours is one of the last items still missing in my 12" collection. While my collection may actually be bigger than even Daffy's collection, I've never had the pleasure to grab a copy of 51 Hours, (let's not even think of the fact that you FOUND them. My god, I'm jealous!!!!) Any of those beauties still for sale? I read a threat you may also have a copy of the Lewis Conection album as well? Damn!
