Prince - Emancipation Brit awards 1997

I can't stop watching this performance. I like it loads. Has anybody else seen it?

Prince is having so much fun, and looks so cute!

Prince's Brit Awards performing Emancipation / We March was in March 1997, not in 1995.

Thogh the performance was lip-synched and he fake-played his one-eyed bass with a black glove, the performance was cool. Much rather to hear it live.

i did think he was lip-synching. why? was that norm? i also thought with the one glove and the the moves, it was very mj like.

he looked like he was fake playing a fretless bass?

i still liked it though.

I've only seen the one from 2006 on the site. It's very cool.
Where does one see mentioned one?

A real low point IMHO. When you have Kirky J pretending to drum on a casio keyboard looking thing and Jay Kay watching with an expression that says it all. The fact that Spice girls stole that show just says how poor and embarrassing Prince's performance was.
Thank God for the 2006 Brit Awards performance and his making amends of that dreadful 97 lip sync.

As for why? Well I just can't see anyone in that 97 band being able to play or keeping up with the tight Emancipation bass line. ( That's probably why it's looped on record as well.)

it was prince.

that band is incredibaly underated, ok kirky wasnt amazing. but what do you want? constant drum solo's? he did he's job. rhonda is amazing! mr hayes is just to funky and mike scott IS guitar! hence why prince keeps getting him back to play for him!

i meant was it not rhonda who played on the brit awards performance. as the previous post alluded that whoever it was, they couldn't play the song live.

Not my favourite TV appearance. He seems a little uninspired by his standards. However I do I like the rendition of the song, musically speaking (even if it is pre-recorded). Killer bass line and synths.

I liked his entrance and some of his dancing, other than that, bit messy.

I remember that appearance did him a lot of good. People at work the next day were saying how great the performance was, which for an generally unknown song was pretty remarkable.

Most big name performers on the Brits take themselves so seriously going for show stealing production numbers (see MJ the year before). Prince just sang (ok, mimed) and danced brilliantly and appeared to be having more fun than anyone else in the room

Sure the band weren't great, Ben Elton was a knob, Jay Kay's reaction was limp and Paul Young ruined any cred the song might have had but I thought it all made Prince look even cooler - like he was having such a good time he didn't give a shit.
