Is the Crystal Ball set indicitative of the legendary vault?

i think it is in that theres alot of great stuff --mediocre stuff--bad remixes--cool mixes etc

the only unanswered question is ,,,are there more recordings from 80's or 90's ?

I hope so. I believe Prince didnt want to release stuff like All my dreams and Moonbeam levels cuz he felt they were too good. i just hope he takes care of the songs.

Unless he digitized them at some point, it is very likely tapes have deteriorated to the point of being unplayable by now...
Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

He definitely held back releasing the powerful material (Empty Room, etc.) and released a lot of remixs (a Lovesign remix, 2morrow is a Most Beautiful Girl In the World remix, So Dark is a remix of the song Dark, Tell Me How U Wanna Be Done is a remix of a portion of the song The Continental, Get Loose is a remix of the song Loose, and a Pussy Control remix) instead, which was a huge disappointment.

Eh, no it isn't.It has one single sample lifted from "the most beautiful girl in the world", which hardly makes it a "remix".

There are around 250 of unreleased Prince outtake tracks circulating, so Crystal Ball hardly contained it all.

It all depends on the (analog) tapes used, the way he recorded on them, etc.
Digitizing is not a final solution.
I.e.: you should not do away with the analog masters just yet.
Also digital media deteriorates and needs redundancy, multiple copies, and fresh copies after a while.

atleast theres a lot of songs ciculating. And im sure Prince has a lot of unreleased songs of this decade. Turn me loose is one and there was a song he mentioned in a interview he did to promote lotus,he said it was so good it would never be released. Remember when Crystal ball 2 was gonna come out and we saw the track list? shes just a baby was included,so that tells me prince still has them ...then again it never got released and maybe it was all a lie...

It hardly contained as much completely original material as it could have, rather than remixes of previously released material.
Goodnight, sweet Prince.

Hah, no. That's one of the reasons why they keep the recordings in a dry safe in any case. Those masters are just 20-30 year old, and like said, Prince has probably gotten a lot of it digitized along the years.

Plain c-cassettes from the past decades are perfectly playable still to this day. Well, unless you've been storing them underwater or something.

That's not a matter of an opinion, dear. That's just a completely stupid assertion.

Guess by your standards the remix of "Lovesign" on the same collection is actually a remix of "DMSR" then, since it samples the synth hook from that track. Is "Race" also a remix of "The Continental" because they both contain the same distinctive sample on their choruses? "Newpower Soul" must be a remix of "Big Fun" in your mind too. Completely different songs do not become remixes of other songs just because a short snippet of another song is used for them.

Jesus Christ, this place sometimes...

That's an insult.

By my standards Love Sign [Shock G's Silky Remix] is a remix of Love Sign mixed with DMSR.

Is "Race" also a remix of "The Continental" because they both contain the same distinctive sample on their chorus?

Race and The Continental do not have the same distinctive sample on their chorus.

"Newpower Soul" must be a remix of "Big Fun" in your mind too.

Yes.

Completely different songs do not become remixes of other songs just because a short snippet of another song is used for them.

When the chorus is the same repeated 5 times from another Prince song, I call it a Prince remix. Prince doesn't follow rules when it comes to making remixes of his songs and he always tries to do something different and surprising. Escape (Free Yo Mind From This Rat Race) is a remix of Glam Slam and it has different lyrics and a different sound, Take This Beat is a remix of I Wish U Heaven and it has different lyrics and a different sound, Things Have Gotta Change, 2 The Wire, Get Some Solo, Do Your Dance, Housebangers, Q In Doubt are all remixes of Cream, Violet The Organ Grinder and Clockin’ The Jizz are very loosely based off of the song Gett Off. Purple Melody is a mix of a ton of Prince songs all together.

Jesus Christ, at this place sometimes...

No, claiming one thing being something completely else than what it is, is not an opinion. If you can't understand that maybe you shouldn't be attempting to have a discussion on the internet.

Okay, this is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen posted on this board during these last ten years. Let's just move on.

No.
We don't know the exact amount of material in the Vault.
We don't know whether the average quality is comparable to the CD set.

I guess if people make such nonsensical statements in the first place there's usually no use challenging them about those either.

The Crystal Ball series was originally intended by Prince as an outlet for those unrelesased gems that for years had intrigued fans and were the subject of constant discussion. Tracks such as Moonbeam Levels and The Line were scheduled for official release at a future date.

The unfortunate issues with the release of the original set and the understandable negative reception from fans who bemoaned the difficulties with obtaining copies put paid to any subsequent Crystal Ball releases.

Yes, the Crystal Ball set is just the tip of the iceberg. It's a pretty good
indicator of what's in the Vault too... though Crystal Ball was deliberately
light on 'Revolution' era stuff (as that was planned to be released on a
seperate album).

There's an enormous amount of unreleased material by Prince circulating, and
Crystal Ball was supposed to be a way of officially releasing some of this
and 'beating to bootleggers'. However, for various reasons, the vault doors
have since closed again. So it's unlikely that any future volumes will now
be released.

The "Crystal Ball" set was deliberately full of filler because Prince didn't want to shoot his load all at once.
If you listen to all the hundreds of unreleased songs, it becomes apparent there is 1/3 absolute genius- gold that surpasses a lot of the released stuff; 1/3 average, interesting to hear tracks, and 1/3 better off unreleased, almost amaturish material that if not for bootlegging would never be heard.

The dropoff in quality and inconsistency in the bootlegs is quite dramatic 1988-on.

From what's out there, I'd say there is 4-5 excellent single disc albums Prince could make. They would rank right up there with the best if compiled carefully and respectfully. After that it gets spottier. Some of thet Batman era outtakes are horrendously amaturish.

So "Crystal Ball" probably represents the Vault as a whole- some great stuff, some interesting stuff, and stuff for collectors only.

Have a good day!

The Crystal Ball official album was just an introduction of the cool stuff that's in the vault. If Prince would have released Crystall Ball II, this would have really been a great way 2 open up the vault.

I think it's indicative of the far-to-midland material in the vault.

I would assume there's probably stuff in the vault that is far better than CB, and stuff that is far worse...even than poom poom (which I like falloff )

I would imagine Prince shelve's "ideas" as well as full fledged songs and albums for future use. I could be wrong though.

It would be quite amazing if he released the stuff. It would keep music critics and fans occupied for years and years. lol

Question: Does any other recording artist have as much or more material than Prince does in his vaults? confuse
Prince may be unmatched in his overall talents, but I'm assume there must be musicians out there just as prolific.

I agree. I also think that speculations about this legendary vault have reached mythic proportions. lol

I firmly believe that anybody expecting countless albums worth of mind blowing, previously unheard songs would be sorely disappointed. I'm sure we'd all like to investigate and judge for ourselves!
