You are so right. Occasionally I see glimpses of one, but it's one put together by a person who is hugely passionate and full of ideas, yet short-attention-spanned and ultimately lacking in marketing knowledge.

When all this Shelbey stuff started, it reminded me of the Lonelygirl15 ARG, and the one Trent Reznor did for the NIN album last year. Thing is, they are very difficult to do without a strong team involved and a really solid plan. I just wish he'd hire a good agency to handle all of this stuff. I suspect there is an element also of him not believing in marketing, but it's not all what he thinks it is, and to truly excite and engage people outside of the existing hardcore fan base will take more than a website, one store selling your latest album, and a couple of gigs in Paris.

Regardless, here's my response:

Yes. We do gain support due to the fact we talk about Prince. But why do we? We (nor Shelbey) get anything in return for doing this, and it takes up a lot of our time that could be better spent doing 'real' work.

The answer is that we do it out of a love and passion for Prince's music, and that we recognise there's a huge hole in the Prince online community left by the closure of HQ for what we consider 'real' discussion. Our only aim is to entertain and inform others who also share this passion. We want as many people as possible to share our passion.

If you'd prefer to continue reading the numerous posts on the style of Prince's hair or what he eats for breakfast, then perhaps this podcast is not for you.

No one has implied in any way that that this is the case and there is no need to make it more clear.

I've been listening to them since the first podcast and in all that time (I think about 9 months?) they have never insinuated they were affiliated with, said they were employed by, said they were connected with, or claimed to have any dealings with Prince's camp.

Not everything needs to be stamped "UNOFFICIAL". Sometimes it should be obvious.....even to those who are a little blinded by the purple light.

It should also be noted that it was us that contacted her, not the other way around.

Of course, one is free to make up their own mind, but for me, the evidence suggests there is at least some level of 'official affiliation', even if it's not in the same league as say a drfunkenberry or an actual PP employee. Time will tell I suppose.

Do not put words in people's mouths, clearly no one here is "admitting" to anything.

My advice to the podcast producers is to not converse on matters like these on a public board, and you definitely do not want to admit and/or follow up on any potential legal mistakes on your part at this time, as they may be used against you in the future. Remove any wording to that effect that may already have been posted. Of course you are free to clarify whatever you like at any time, but clearly such action would not be motivated by some random person hiding behind a screenname on a public board.

Just to clarify: When I said "Yes. We are using Prince's name to gain publicity" I was in no way implying that we brand our show as being officially affiliated with Prince and his people, because, quite obviously, it's not. I was refering to the fact that as a free fan-made podcast, we gain support because there are people out there who are genuinely interested in opinions on his music.

A) Shelby clearly has video footage that was provided by SOME official source. She never claimed to be an 'official' Prince anything, but is being fed info to provide to all of us. Instead of hating, just thank her for providing us a preview of the DVD (hopefully) and move on!

B) Regarding the Peach and Black Podcast - Again, I ask - are you ON the internet? Is this the only podcast you listen to? Peach and Black is very typical of fan-made podcasts, and it fact it adds an air of intelligence to discussion of the music and Prince's activities. It's very clear it's NOT official, and they definitely don't need to state that before every podcast.

Just lighten up and enjoy the stuff being put out. I completely enjoyed the Shelby interview, and I'm loving the P&B podcast - keep it up guys!
