Chew Fu and Steve Clisby do a pretty great cover of "Purple Rain"

http://hotbiscuits.wordpr...ve-clisby/

Chew Fu has pretty much touched base on all aspects of the known music universe. He’s reworked Britney Spears into something lovable, refixed Ciara and Timberlake into a dance floor filler, and now he’s taken a classic Prince track and turned it upside down. Knowing that Warner would be a bitch about doing a remix, he simply hooked up with Steve Clisby and made a cover instead. Genius.

Great cover, IMHO.

i played it to Warner ,the publisher, and they liked it a lot..Its kinda hard to get in contact with Prince so i don`t think he heard it..
..i don`t think you know Prince right?so its kinda hard to speak for him,and i would not stress about it to much or get so angry like you just did ..its only my interpretation of the song, and if you don`t like it,don`t listen to it again..go in peace P

Just got this from their website. I hate how Warner can do this and I guess it applies to any other 'publisher' who has creative control over any artist. Crap remix & a crap attitude. Is P to blame, was his $100m deal in '92 the cause of this, if so then I guess there is no right of complaint from P or any fans. That said it just feels so wrong, of all the thousands of songs they could've picked!.

It has got ZILCH to do with "creative control". Don't want people to cover your song? DON'T RELEASE IT. Once it's been released, it's fair game.

How many covers has Prince done? But oh wait, it's Prince, so then it's OK.

I also don't know why he would involve WB. AFAIK It's Universal that now handles Prince's publishing.

is it really fair game? or am I right in thinking that if you own the masters then you have the power of veto if anyone wants to sample /cover your stuff?. Didn't P veto some rapper trying to sample his songs?. I also thought it was Universal and not Warners as well.

You're NOT thinking.

There's TONS of info out there on what you need to do when your band wants to record & release a cover version. Get educated.

hmmm, not really a 'not thinking' issue, more of a 'can't be arsed because life is too short' issue!. If you have a sensible and concise answer then please do share otherwise STFU!.
