Kevin Smith on Prince

I can't believe i only just watched the footage of Kevin Smith talking about his paisley encounter at the celebration. Very interesting and entertaining. He's hilarious.

You poor thing. You just did the unthinkable and brought up a previously discussed topic. Prepare for smart-assed comments, beating a dead horse or other delightful emotes, and general lambasting.

As well you should. The
beatdeadhorse emote is in and of itself beating a dead horse considering how many assholes use it.

On a topic-related thought, quite a few people think the whole Prince story is a setup and the person who initially asked about it was a plant. Either way, I don't care. I could listen to the 'Chaka mad' story a million times. I would have also thought that the footage Kevin shot would have surfaced in boot circles long before now. He makes it sound somewhat drab, but I would still like to see it.

I seen Kevin Smith monologues plenty times, he's super funny, I meet him back in 1998, very cool dude, very smart, his best films are Clerks and Chasing Amy.

Prince is a classy dude on this situations, he never talks back at the people who trash him. He is Prince, he can go after anyone (a la MJ), he can made up publicity stunts just to look good against his haters, he can even twist the facts with false publicity (a la MJ), but he never does it.

In this particulary scenario, I think Kevin Smith took advantage of Prince, I mean he knew before the whole deal turn into a ugly experience that he was going to incorporated Prince on his monologues, it's seems to me that Smith need it an excuse to make this about himself.

So when I read stupid commnets like "such a shame Prince never even thanked the guy for all the work he did" I go like eek

So if somebody say it, gotta be true? What about Prince version of the situation?

Isn't fair to just go and act like TMZ or Perez Hilton on things. I give Prince the benefit of the doubt. Smith is smart ass, a funny guy but smart ass.

just because he's prince that does not give him the right to be an asshole to others which is what he was reguarding kevin smith look I'm going to be real I like princes music and all but to be honest him as a person is disappointing and what is this hate you have for Michael Jackson? it may have seem cool when he was alive but now that he's dead I would think that people would at least pay him just a LITTLE bit more respect but anyway back to prince I don't think crazy hardcore prince fams would ever accept the truth disbelief

No hate, no disrespect to MJ, but it will be nice to know wtf your talkin about. Do you have any hate?

Kevin Smith is a asshole during his monologues, he likes to atack fans and make fun of them, in a very funny and entertainment way, his a cool bad ass dude. Prince is a easy target, he took adavantage, Prince life is good for comedy.

Still I would love to hear Prince version.

There had to be 1 " Prince would never do that" comment.

It sounds EXACTLY like Prince to me.... Think of the number of people that say they haven't been paid for work, think of the people he's fallen out with over money (Levi), think of his general attitude to people from outside his innercircle, every opportunity to preach.

It sounds exactly how I'd expect him to be and the fact Smirh highlights what we all suspect in a hilarious way is...hilarious.

A short man with many shortcomings.

What's funny in Kevin Smith's narration is the narration itself. As soon as your stomach doesn't hurt from laughter anymore if you stop to think about the description of the actual events in a neutral attitude there's hardly anything funny or odd or crazy or freaky... It's just a story by a gifted narrator...

Which forum? searching prince.org gives over 6 pages of results with Kevin Smith on them! lol

*EDIT* OH, I remember this. There are two search things here and one doesn't work. You need to use the one which has 'google custom search' in the text box before you type, it has a search button after the box. The one that is labelled labelled 'search forums' is broke.

true.

But it only takes the 3 or 4 cringe worthy bits (son of a snake, Camels, stop talking about religion, wired for sound, no thanks) to be true any you just realise what a c*nt Prince seems to be as a person if he doesn't get his own way.

And we all know how much Prince likes lawyers so, if what Smith says isn't true, Mr Smith would probably have had a date in court by now.

The best of it all is that Kevin didn't sign a non-disclosure. Apparently Prince was mad about him talking but couldn't do anything about it. If what he said wasn't true, Prince would probably have tries to sue him regardless, so I'm guessing what KS told was true, if a little embelished.

Oh, undoubtedly... I meannot for one minute do you think " that doesn't sound like something Prince would do". I watched it with my vwife and she said "why would he get an employee to ring up and say he'll call you in X minutes etc"....and the best you can sayto that is "Because he's Prince" ... And then you realisethe whole irony of the situation as it's the only thing Smith can come up with too.

Sure, it is nicely put by Mr. Smith, but the events he speaks of are hilarious of itself. "He'll call you back in 17 minutes." "I want a camel." That's hilarious Prince stuff. No one else can get away with it but Prince. Ok, it's not the best PR if you wanna be a politician, but for Prince, yeah, it's brilliant!

He's funny'n all, and those stories were highly entertaining.. but I am no fan of him. Really what he's spewed about Prince and even Tim Burton shows his true negative colors. He'd be one i'd care the least about working with if I were ever to get into that business

He's the equalivalent to Kathy Griffin for me.

I agree that he's a pretty much 1 trick pony....but the very fact Peince hot tripped up by tailing to quash someones freedom of speach is hilarious. The hypocrisy of Prince talking about oppression, slavery etc...and he's doing the same

Well wouldn't you in a situation like this? He's making him look like an utter fool after Prince put trust in him, and who knows how much of it is true for we know whose benefit it is. Looking into legal action is only natural.
