You should decide for yourself. Because you know what? Besides all the "beating a dead horse" responses (which you already got) and other ones unrelated to your questions; because you're on a prince forum the majority are going to say Purple Rain and giving numerous reasons why. However, if you were to post this on an MJ forum the majority would say Thriller and give you numerous reasons why leaving you back to square one. Just listen to albums and decide for yourself if you feel the need to have to like one better than the other. In the end, they're both magnificent pieces of work by amazingly talented people.
chill..prince doesnt like men being front row, makes it hard to sing the ballads

Purple Rain was more musically inclined, it had substance to it- the songs were structured with thought and crafted geniously. Thriller was consisted of tracks with catchy good hooks.

In the end, I believe Purple Rain will still be there standing.

How did u come 2 that conclusion? Both projects are creative and done very well. The major difference is that most of PR was recorded live to give it a rawness and club feel for the movie. Whereas, Thriller is a studio project. Both are creative on different levels.

I'm Gonna have to say Purple Rain because I just have something against Thriller apart from Billie Jean which is just WOW. ( I do own it though..it was a gift)

Thriller is a very good album but Purple Rain is the best album in music history in my opinion. Thriller, Billie Jean and The Lady In My Life are impressive songs, although Billie Jean is not as great as I used to think. Purple Rain is in a league of its own. The Beautiful Ones is a ballad that is so original and sung with such great feeling. When Doves Cry is really impressive musically and innovative with it's lack of a bassline. Then there's the rock of Computer Blue, the funk of Baby I'm A Star...

that fruit looks good lick

but in reguards to the question I don't think this is a really fair comparison because both prince and MJ are musical geniuses and I have all of their music on my ipod but we all know who was more popular and who sold more but I can't really choose and since you posted this question on a prince fansite of course obviously people are going to be more inclined to say purple rain just like MJ fans would say Thriller is better both albums were very successful during that time period so I would say it's a tie between both

purple rain-musical masterpiece

thriller-timeless classic

You are at a Prince fansite. What do you think people will say? If you post here, people will say PR. If you post on an MJ board, they will say Thriller.

If you want a more unbiased opinion, post this question on a more neutral fansite, if one exists. I would say Madonna but being that she is very 'poppy' would appeal more to the MJ fans. Something like a Journey site would be more neutral.

Being that he just died and is fresh in everyone's mind, and everyone gets more glory for their work after they die, Thriller sold twice as many albums as Purple Rain, etc... Most people will probably say Thriller. Prince never really cared about appealing to the masses like MJ.

And most people don't have good taste anyway. That's why radio plays Britney Spears, Pink, Miley Cyrus, and all the other loads of vomit every half hour.

Annnnnyway.... I say Purple Rain. razz

Purple Rain for sure, the songwriting is better and is just a deeper album, you felt you knew a bit more about Prince after listening than with MJJ and Thriller

I can't make up my mind!
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.
