Riverpoet31 said: But 'soundwise' its an interesting album, because of the use of samples: most horn, orchestra and even many guitar-parts are sampled, and replayed by Prince on the keyboard. A common practise among artists in the dance-scene in 1989, maybe, but it was quite revolutionary for a 'mainstream artist' / popmusician to arrange almost an entire album using samples.
This is an often overlooked tidbit about the studio experimentation on this album. I believe the template for Batman may have been the sample-heavy Lovesexy track Dance On, which wouldn't have been out of place on Batman. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I remember that was the time in my life that I was being chased by the devil.....And I actually thought I was batman...I was Seventeen and that's when I had my first nervous breakdown....The album played into my delusional thinking...And the Devil chasing me seemed so real.....I was even afraid of Prince for a short time until I realized He is A good force but the Devil tried to convince me otherwise...Batman is really now one of my Favorites especially the First track "Ive seen the Future and it Will B..."

I like the Batman album it's real fun party music but the arms of orion Yeah, Electric Chair is FANTASTIC! It's the song I've been playing on repeat for the last few days. I must confess I didn't remember that at all until I listened to the album again last week. It probably hadn't impressed me back in the day. I remember my favourites were Lemon Crush and The Arms Of Orion! I am but mad north-northwest

twizzon1 said: I thought the Batman album was definately not one of Prince's best, but there
were some bright moments on this album. Who can say that "Scandalous" was not one of the tightest slow jams of that decade. Batdance from a production standpoint was very well arranged and put together with the Atlanta Steele choir, if I remember correctly, putting down some background vocals, and the guitar solo in the beginning,RIDICUOLUS! I enjoyed lemon crush and vicki waiting as well. he seemed to use sampeling in a VERY creative manner on this album. If u listen close there's some CRAZY things going on. Sampled vocales sloewd down , acting as ad-libed bass parts...the was the chior's vox were sampled and interjected into songs. The arrangemnts on the songs we ALL very creative. My fave is that slinky/bouncy/lazy spring sound on vicki waiting. Hummed/buzzed bass parts....it was VERY inventive but it seems a lot of people didin't notice. And the song "Batdance" was Jungle before Jungle was Jungle.
