Desire I love, I mean love the Prince version of Desire. Right now I'm listening to the Family version for the first time and it's interesting to listen to it slowed down but not as good as the more upbeat P version. Such a sweet soulfelt song. And my point is...?

Hmmm...I have the Family's version but not P's. Never heard it. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

Both are very special, each in its own way...I couldn't say, which is better, only, that they are different... -----------------------------------------

I agree, Prince's version is EXCELLENT. I remember first hearing it on the Cosmos set and playing it about 20 times in a row that night! Highlight is Eric Leeds' INCREDIBLE solo at the end...this alone makes it superior to the Family version IMHO...

Sorry kids, but the Family's version SURPASSES P's version anyday. Maybe I'm bias, but the Family's version was the first I heard. Same goes for NC2U...The Family's version was the first I heard and...better than Sinead's and P's weak "live" version. He should've taken that song at first for himself. Mmmm... I actually think the demo version of this song is far more accomplished as a musical piece, not least because of Eric Leeds sax solo at the end.
The version on the album is a little more sedate and atmospheric, there certainly is a lot more orchestration going on in the mix. There is also a rehearsal of 'Desire' during The Family sessions, featuring a terrific vocal by Prince. Again, it sounds like a different song altogether, not a million miles away from 'Slave To Love' by Bryan Ferry, in fact. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."
