This is basically complaining about Prince being Prince, a true waste of time. 30 years into the career we should all know that he releases a lot of music almost annually. Complaining that he should take his time and only release "good music" is silly at this point. He obviously releases what he thinks is good. If he took more time, we'd just get more triple albums with the same complaints that he should have edited it down to just the "good" songs. I agree. What's "good" 2 U may not be "good" 2 me. Prince is hardly sitting in the studio saying "this sounds like crap let's make it the title track for the next album!". Take what you like from the releases and be happy with it and if there's nothing you like then shelve it and consider it a collectors item. So why then is he NOT PLAYING SONGS from the records he's released in ooooh... the past 15 years? How many of them has he toured? How many of the songs on those albums have been played REGULARLY? Hell, most of the stuff he's released in the past 10 years or so has barely been played more than handful of times. I wonder why... because PRINCE KNOWS IT SUCKS? Now compare to SOTT, which Prince started touring BEFORE it was released with a show that was 80% ALL NEW SONGS. Go figure that: Prince touring an album and ACTUALLY PLAYING SONGS from said album. Two things he hasn't done in a loooong time. And before anyone mentions TRC: how "brave" was it that he was playing SMALL rooms, and even then the amount of TRC tracks quickly decreased, and by the time the tour reached Europe it was again mainly hits. © Bart Van Hemelen

If fans keep posting that they dislike everything he's done since 1994 then why would he play these songs? If someone told you they hate spaghetti would you continue to make it for dinner every night just ot hear it over and over again that they hate it. As a collective the fans have generally bashed most of his recent work and lamented about the good old days. So he give you the good old days and not the recent work. I think Prince likes his new material but gets the drift that the fans don't and he plays to the audience. So? Why single out Wonder? Why not compare Prince's output to that of an artist who has been busy? CoolTarik1 said: but Prince pops one out one every year.
Really? So what then did he release in 2008? 2005? 2003? 2002? 2000? Lotusflow3r is mere months old and it's already in the trash as far as Prince is concerned. Hell, it was DOA. Remember how back in the day we didn't just get an album every year, but also SINGLES, VIDEOS, TOURS and SIDE PROJECTS? An album wasn't just something that got released one day, but it was the start of a month-long assault on the senses, a stream of events. I'll admit fault that yeah, he hasn't released an album like every year, but for a pop musician his age, he sure keeps busy. I do also wish he would make a real project out of the albums he does promote.... but also Prince was with a major label back then- thought it could be argued that with the internet these days, he could simple release it on his own, or at least hire someone to help micromanage for him At this point in history, we have a choice to make

I'm confused as to how he's wasting time
In the time it takes most musicians to scrounge together enough material for a single CD, Prince gave us 3 (albeit, 2 were great--the 3rd was filler). Sure the website for the 3 CDs sucks, but he seems to be working at a steady clip to me.

At this point in his life he probably doesn't feel the need to go on tour. He's getting older and a tour would take a lot out of him. Now he is just making music for the fun of it and he's not driven by becoming rich and famous anymore. He is already rich and famous!
I think that from now on we will only see him here and there in concert. He will always pop up somewhere to keep the cash flow coming that supports his not so average life style. love the one who is Love!

Even if you discount singles, then he did in fact release ALBUMS in 4 of the 5 years you said he didn't. That's a fact. To dispute that is ridiculous.

Maybe Prince is more concerned with his lagacy and the vault these days. Perhaps his best material for the past 10 years has gone straight into the vault and we have been getting the scraps that are not worthy of inclusion into the time capsule. That would explain some of the substandard tosh that has come our way over the last few years.
TRC was his last attempt at anything conceptual. Everything else has been a real mix of compiled castaways it seems to me. Even a couple of live albums thrown in there as filler to where an album would usually be. This from the man who cried because WB wouldnt release his stuff more quickly. Anyway, whatever his plans are for his legacy, it wouldnt surprise me if he is holding back his best work for the vault. Afterall, in these days of pirated music, record companies losing their mojo, fans constantly moaning... Why release the best? Why not release the cast offs, make some money and save the best for his legacy? A dumb idea I admit...

I am disappointed that Prince got left behind sonically. I was of the mind that as I grew older I would always have Prince blazing the music trail so I was assured of good music into my future SO I do on occasion break out the older material...but I know that far to well. I'm up for something new that has the same impact as what he used to do. Is that wrong?

Some people are never going to be happy, I thought Lotusflow3r and MPLSound had some brilliant tracks on, and all the recent live activity?!
Expecting Prince to be someone he was years ago, is really a pointless exercise. Another thing to ask is, exactly who is the bar when measuring Prince's output - which artist is as diverse, creative or prolific?

a 5 second listen to some of the 80s stuff and you know he won't have any balls to risk any of his '2000 era musician' persona and apply it again to now. the problem is the internet came 20 years to late for prince fans. hard to discuss someone who's suns is setting (fairly), especially when you saw the glory under midday.
he has got his booty (what he really craved), look'e here prince, carry on with the cruise control, prince.... we're all duped. reading forums like this. but my ears don't lie. are you a popstar or musician 1st?
