Feel U Up (Long Stroke) Just wanted to show a little appreciation for this under-appreciated jam, especially the long version! I remember in '89 trying desperately to find the "Long Stroke". I could only find the "Short Stroke" here in the states as the b-side to "Partyman", even on the 12". I had the "Long Stroke" on a vinyl bootleg at the time but always wanted an official copy. It wasn't until the internet that I was finally able to get my hands on it. About 10 years later! As far as I know only available on the U.K. "Partyman" picture disc.

The 3" CD with Feel U Up - Long Stroke is available here: http://www.mattscdsingles...e_361.html If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Also available on this 12" single. I think it's the UK pressing:
Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I have only heard the short version but I love this song. I think it's one of the truly defining Prince songs in terms of funkiness and sexy vibes. He really got it right that time!

As a side note, Feel U Up dates back to 1981. I wonder why he dusted this one off as a b-side for Batman? If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I had my record filed with the UK 12" singles but thought it may have been the German copy. Thank you for clearing that up. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I love this song. Is the long version actually the original version or is it a remix?

I would say it's the original (released) version. It doesn't have any additional production like a remix would but it's quite longer and has a saxophone solo. I'm surprised how many haven't heard the "Long Stroke".

I'd wager a guess because it has a similar vibe to the a-side, with helium vocals and all. And it being an 'unused' Camille track (unlike, say, Rockhard In A Funky Place), and being generally kick-ass all round.

Didn't he 'dust it off' for the Camille album? I thought the original version was quite different (haven't heard it in years though).

^ amazing B-side, it's the original version afaik, not re-worked.....
On Camille's Crystal Ball, a vinyl bootleg from 1988 or something, the title to this song was "Let Me Fill U Up" Prince 4Ever.

I love the song, but was surprised that he went waaaaay back for this jam. I guess he was really feeling the "Camille" vibe, as he also had SEX as a b-side to Scandalous (though that's "Endorphine" singing) - another great, but hardly mentioned song. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

One of his best 'later' cold, minimalistic electro-funk tracks!
Candy Dulfer is playing 'deadpan' sax-motives on this, that are both extremely catchy and 'robotic' sounding.

Feel U Up was re-recorded/re-worked for the Camille project in 1986 with seemingly few changes to the music and adding the sped up vox. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Bootleggers were in a hurry back then and didn't have time for little details like correct titles. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Well, i have a cd-single here saying that Candy is playing the sax.
And productionwise this version is sounding more like being part of the Batman-sessions then his style in 1986. [Edited 10/7/09 12:23pm]

I was just giving some history to the song, not questioning your post. I have the CD-Single too. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
