I'm convinced some of u are absolutely nuts lol. However this whole thing works out with youtube. Its just an interesting situation no more no less. Why anybody could work up anger about it is beyond me.

The thing is, ASCAP can only give copyright clearance on behalf of member songwriters and music publishers owning the songs.

They can not lend permission on behalf of the record companies and recording artists owning the recordings and videos.

Even if ASCAP is allowed to approve such a deal with Youtube on behalf of Prince for his publishing rights, Youtube would still have to go through WB and/or Prince/NPG records to get full clearance for the video and sound recording rights.

So if this news is true, it's very likely that Prince did have something to do with it.

Besides, it's not very likely that ASCAP can singlehandedly make such a deal without songwriters and music publishers having any say whatsoever over it.

I could care less. It's not like you can download them and burn them onto DVD or something. They will be stuck in a computer and can be taken down at any time. And what if you can no longer afford internet in the future? Being able to record them is the answer. Play the damn things on TV so we can record them. And don't play them on cable either...I may not have that high ass bill in the near future.
