It's still amazing at the number of supposedly "old-school" fans who have the nerve to be pissed after the ever-so-consistent Prince track record. You're right. If I may add, it's odd to me that a lot of people who are doing the most complaining about the site are those who haven't joined it. Why does it matter so much to those people if they aren't a part of the situation? It's not like they can do anything to change it cause they're not involved. Some of them have this "I'm better than you" type of attitude because they didn't join and it's totally uncalled for. If the tables were turned, I wouldn't do that to you, so why do that to me or anyone else who did join? I'm seriously confused by this belief. Apparently, if you joined the site, you have no right to complain because you should have known what you were getting into. And if you didn't join, you have no right to complain because it doesn't concern you--even if you didn't join because you knew it would be a ripoff. So absolutely no one has a right to complain about anything at all. I'm not buying into that.

Serena said: Do you have any boots, Tremolina? If so, consider the $77 your payment to him for those.
Actually, those that paid $77 and didn't get what they paid for are more likely to see bootlegs as more attractive now. I am sure some didn't buy bootlegs out of respect for Prince and fairness, but now that they've been disrespected to this extent, that reluctance to buy bootlegs because of the principle behind it is gone. In fact, I am 100% positive that is the case. In some instances.

So, that kind of makes the rationalization of buying boots as revenge, moot. He HAS put up music, videos and pictures, so he has provided content, just not as much as we might like. I guess part of the difference in my thinking is that I'm honest about being in the wrong for maybe having certain items, so who am I to bitch about what he does?

And given the fact that I could get the album for $12.00 at Target there was no reason for me to invest $77 in this venture. So I didn't lose a damn thing. And the fact that the press release focused mainly on the offering of pics and videos and one-off concert stops, I got the hint that members would not be getting loads of actual downloadble music. So yeah, for those long time fans that know how he rolls with this type of stuff, it is on you. Now, for the newbies who didn't know any better yeah it sucks. But then again all they needed to do was read one of the many, many posts of fans who gave detailed reasons why they would not join and they too could have saved themselves $77. It's only "on me" inasmuch as the saying "buyer beware" applies. To be honest, in previous incarnations of Prince's pay-to-play web site ventures, I always felt like I got my money's worth, regardless of whether or not we actually got all the stuff he hinted at during interviews and pre-launch hype, so I felt there could be a 50/50 chance that LF.com could actually be something worth joining. I was fully prepared for the 50% chance that the site could turn out to be a big lemon...which, of course, it was. Taking that gamble was the only thing that was "on me", and I accepted that risk from the moment I clicked forked over my $77. That Prince can't be bothered to follow through on the site, and that he can't respond to the overwhelming dissatisfaction from his fans regarding the site by offering some meager trifle of content is on HIM, and it reflects on the amount of respect he has for his fans. If I paid my money and I didn't like what I got, I don't think it's at all inappropriate for me to return to an independent fan forum like this site and share my opinion with those who are on the fence about joining the site. There's absolutely no reason to join, and if someone could put their $77 to use in a better way, they should. I was lucky. I still had plenty of tax return money and I could afford the gamble at the time. And I got played by Prince. Oh well. NOW I can say "never again". i miss you already!

I was just pointing out in general (not you specifically or anyone else in particular) that people who are long time fans of Prince and know the odds are 50/50 are surprised at the outcome. As I said in my post, it was pretty much stated point blank in the press release what the site would focus on: pics, videos, one-off concert stops. And I agree other incarnations of the "music club" have been better prensented and executed. Also if I recall I said in my post that any newbies that didn't know the score need only read the many, many posts to see that they would likely be disappointed in what they got for their money. And ...and as much a bruhaha as was made over him not letting his videos be posted on Youtube, now folks are mad because he may have come to agreement where they can be showed on Youtube. All because it seems the fact he was not being compensated by Youtube was the big attraction to having them there. Now that he may being getting something other than a little free pub via YouTube fans have an issue with it. As for folks being angered because they paid to view material that could show up on Youtube (or other free sites or boots) -- welll this has been the case with every single incarnation of the his websites. The only difference is that instead of bootleggers or disgruntled fans throwing up material others paid for it's P himself. As far I can tell people are still getting screwed, but no one cared that fans were screwing them over and many applauded it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
