love it, love it, love it!. The classic Lovesexy feel [especially guitars] are all over my version. Isn't it rumoured that it was a long work in progress and P would have guests singers who jammed at PP to lay down vocals on the main chorus. Imagine the many stars who have jammed with P over the years laying down vocals on this.

Interesting song. I like it but I dont think it would have worked on Lovesexy. I feel like the 9 songs on that album were just meant to be together in the order that they were with no alterations. It's just perfect.
The quality that this particular song is circulating in is just PRISTINE. It makes me think that it was intended to be released on SOMETHING. And whatever that thing was, it got pretty close to the final stages of being released.

I don't love it, but I really do LIKE this song
another Lovesexy era song, I still remember when I 1st say Prince of Paisley Park (which was basically a videography of the Lovesexy era) and Mavis talking about how this recording came about It was performed live during some LS aftershows ***** ***** Flash, flash! Jack just got the news God is alive! God is alive! CHORUS: Whoa, oh! {x3} God is alive News is comin' like a hurricane Comin' down hard on those who live in vain Treatin' each other funky when U know we're all the same God is alive, this is not a game CHORUS (He's alive) News is comin' like a dog in heat He's lookin' 4 soldiers with strong feet That can dance on whoever can't say His name God is alive, this is not a game (Listen) CHORUS (Listen) (Yeah, I'm a witness) (Do U believe?) (U know it) All of His children come take a blissy ride 4 all who see Him, 4 all He lives inside U can be so happy, purely satisfied God is alive Live, live! One step at a time, we need a new rhyme (Alive) Up with education, down with crime Alive! CHORUS (God is alive!) Live, live! God is alive! {x5} (CHORUS) {repeat parts in BG} Oh yeah Woke me up this morning Started me on my day Got my health and strength, y'all I can truly say Ooh, He's alive! Well Ah, He's alive! All over me Ah, He's alive! I'm a livin' witness That God's alive! I'm a livin' witness He's alive! Do U believe that He's alive? Do U believe, oh, He's alive? Ooh, yes He is Sho'nuff He is, well Yes He is Each breath I breathe lets me know Every step I take lets me know Every song I sing, oh, lets me know Oh, God is alive! Whoa, oh [Edited 9/15/09 18:53pm]

It's a a good song I love the way the multi layered background vocals are mixed.
It's not a Lovesexy outtake as it was recorded after the release of Lovesexy. It was intended for the unreleased Rave album and also included on a very early configuration of Graffiti Bridge..

Loveseaxy? really? I always felt it had that Grafitti Bridge style (over)production. Great track all the same! Take it - like Clarence said:

Loveseaxy? really? I always felt it had that Grafitti Bridge style (over)production. Great track all the same! I believe 'God Is Alive' was recorded in London during the Lovesexy tour. A short video exists of Prince and Mavis Staples recording the song. It appears in the BBC Omnibus report, i think. The song was sometimes played during the aftershows of the Lovesexy tour, at the GroBe Freiheit 36 show in Hamburg for example. "And In The End, The Love you Take Is Equal To The Love You Make"

Some of the GB style came from the Lovesexy era I remember at one of the After shows when he got ready to intro Rave un2 the Joy... he told Sheila E. that a New Power beat would work for this one This song actually feels similar to Rebirth of the Flesh

This was definitely recorded in the Lovesexy era. On the old BET "Video Soul" show Mavis was being interviewed and debuting the video for "Time Waits 4 No One" and they ran the clip of the recording of "God Is Alive". Mavis offered up an explanation of the track and the lyrics that put her off until Prince explained them to her. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

He also played the song DURING some Lovesexy shows. In the Charlotte, NC show on 9/24/88, he played God is Alive instead of Blues in C.
