Love it! The rap stuff is always overlooked, just because it was such a strange departure at the time. But put it against a lot of other pop-rap stuff from other artists at the time, and it's actually way up there.

This and push have some great vocal stuff on there, and when you hear this alongside Horny Pony it all makes sense!

'Jughead' was dated from the time the album dropped. And it is cringe-worthy corny as hell. Prince sounds like an old man trying to show the kids he can do hip-hop. If you've ever seen 1960's footage of Frank Sinatra doing Elvis songs, you know what I mean. "Yeah Homey, kick it just like that" during the guitar solo? Yuck! "Get stupid, get stupid" No, no, no. Why is the song bad? Maybe it's Tony M's stumbling, sloppy-mouthed, saliva drooling raps that make no sense. Or the phrase "We want this one to go worldwide, not stateside, huh" The only thing good about this song is Michael B's drumming, and that is probably true for most of the D&P album. You would never think the guy that made 'Little Red Corvette' could find himself in the studio on a track like this, let alone releasing it with FRIGGIN' CONFIDENCE, like it's going to be the next big thing.

It's an ok song. Certainly there are worse songs on Diamonds And Pearls. ("Daddy Pop," "Gett Off" and "Walk Don't Walk") I do think it is unjustly dismissed as garbage but it's far from my favourite. I agree that it's pretty funky but as always the presence of Tony Mosley really hurts the song.

What's up with Daddy Pop, Gett Off and Walk Don't Walk?

Jughead is the weakest track on Diamonds And Pearls but I don't think it's dreadful.

I think Diamonds and Pearls is his best album from the 1990's.

Just my opinion but those three songs really stink.

"Daddy Pop" has one of the worst Tony Mosley raps and the song is far too repetitive. Prince had so many better unreleased songs from this era, I find it hard to believe that he though this was worth releasing.

For me "Gett Off" is Prince's absolute worst single and I never understood why it is hailed as a classic Prince song. I have never liked this song and I don't think I ever will. It kind of epitomises Prince at his worst trying to sound hip. I have heard some decent live versions but the studio version is a real stinker.

"Walk Don't Walk" is terribly bland and boring. It's also rather repetitive. I kind of like when the acoustic guitars come in but that's more because of how rare they are in Prince's music. Like "Daddy Pop" I believe there are better songs that should have been released instead.

I'm not saying that "Jughead" is a great song but the music alone makes it more worthwhile than the above three songs.

I've been saying this for ages:

"Jughead" is great!

The real stinker on "Diamonds and Pearls" is "Push"! It's so utterly bad that most people seem to simply forget about it.

Half of Diamonds and Pearls is totally unlistenable.

Jughead, Daddy Pop and Thunder are probably 3 or Prince's worst songs ever.

Only stand out tracks for me are Willing and Able, Walk Don't Walk, Money Don't Matter 2 Night and Insatiable.
