Prince and Zepplin Now I've listened to some Zepplin my whole live and I really like them. Great Band(back in the day...don't know about now). I recently bought Purple Rain for the umphteenteh time and at the same time I bought a Best of Zepplin album for that Ohh Ohh Ohh Ohh Ohh Ohh, U don't have to go song(don't know the name of it) and it wasn't on the friggin' album, but anyways. Since I bought them at the same time, I happened to listen to them Back to back. Now call me crazy but 1/4 or 1/3 of Purple Rain sounds excatly like Led Zepplin, except with a synthisizer. The drumming, the guitar licks and outlandish vocals. Now somebody help me out here and tell me I'm not crazy, or tell me that I am. Just as long as it's the truth. It shocked me and also made a lot more sense of Prince playing "Whole lotta Love" and saying funk doesn't know color lines. Darling Nikki Computer Blue and the solo in Purple Rain. They all sound like Led Zepplin with one extra person on synthesizer(as if they had one).
PS: I've been dying to post this since the org went down. I bought the 2 albums just b4 xmas! [This message was edited Sun Jan 5 0:55:29 PST 2003 by toratora69]

well, in my opinion Zeppelins are a lot different, but I know Prince really admires them. I think they share the same energy on stage and, on acoustic ballads, the touch is similar on guitar.
Anyway, Zeps are definitely a superb band cheers

A kind of funky/reggae tinged track right? I really dug Princes acoustic version of Whole Lotta Love from the celebration. His plugged in electric version doesn't really go anywhere though and lacks any sort of intensity.

"She walked in thru the out door, out door"
Raspberry beret "In thru the Out Door" Led Zeppelin's final official album title. coincidence? No. Wendy and Lisa said in interviews that they opened up Prince's eyes to music like The Beatles and Zep. hope that helps. The guitar in Fool in the Rain by Zepplin does sound A LOT like the opening riff of When Doves Cry. It's almost exactly the same tone.

You're crazy. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I think it's WONDERFUL that with the topic given to discuss, what's discussed is the missing "e" in Zeppelin. This is what the internet is all about; getting small things like this ironed out. [This message was edited Sun Jan 5 17:59:58 PST 2003 by toratora69]

Now here is a thread I can relate to!
Comparisons of Prince & Zep? There are some similarites (but not much). Zep was a very funky hard rock band. Listen to Celebration Day, Out on the Tiles, Trampled Under Foot, and Heartbreaker and they are just oozing funk...with a hard edge. Prince did the same with 1999 & Purple Rain. I think Let's Go Crazy and Purple Rain are the most Zep influenced. After PR I don't think he did that kinda music a lot, so I don't hear too much Zep coming through on his songs after 1984 (with exceptions here and there...The Cross, Dance On are a couple that comes to mind). That is up until now. I think TRC and ONAL are kinda Zeppish. Just for the fact that the guitar is back up front. A Page/Prince collaboration has always been fantasy of mine since I was 15. A guy can dream...
