insatiableshhh

the vault according to mike b

got this response from mike b about the vault...dunno if anything here is new to anyone

There's not a lot to tell about the vault. It's just rows and rows of tapes. There is a very ornamental room you have to pass through, to get to it. It's filled with rose petals, some pictures and posters from the "purple rain" era, and a lot of awards.
The actual vault is just a tape storage room with a crapload of tapes on shelves. Apparently, there's also a bunch of concert footage and even an unedited movie Prince made with the first band(Bobby, Dez, Andre, etc.).
But, it's nothing fancy. A big concrete room with a big heavy door, with a combination lock.

Oh, I highly doubt that. I am positive that whatever was recorded is still in pristine condition or, failing that, multiple copies of every recording were made in various formats.

His engineer in the 90s, Hans Martin Buff, said in an interview that Prince doesn´t really care about the decomposing of the tapes and that he, HM Buff, repeatedly told him that he should do something to save them, i.e bake them and save the contents etc.

Then again, if the tapes were really decomposing, then how come Prince comes up with some oldschool outtake samples ( "The Line" in "Acknowledge Me") or whole songs to download ("Splash" etc.) ?

I think the outtakes are still in good condition. I´d be more worried about him destroying them because of his beliefs than worried about deterioration.

the line was from 88 and acknowledge me from 93. splash was online in the year 2000, and dates back to 1985

it's mainly tape from 1975 to 1984 that suffers from the decomposing problem, so it's the earlier period of prince's work that is at most risk

Yeah, I heard the vault contain alot of stuff in there. Stuff that some of us (fans) never thought existed like alot of those tapes of audio recordings and video recordings. I think those tapes r just chilling in tha vault. Nothing wrong with them or nothing. I think Prince is taking care of his legacy.

No Cloreen Bacon Skin was recorded back actually in the spring of 1983, if I can recall.
