What do you hope will the next album be/sound like?

Although I love and still listen to his latest trilogy, I am already so excited for the next Prince music that will be out there, because it feels like he has finally settled in his music and is now ready to just deliver music, without the need to follow any trends he doesn't want to follow.

I know we will have to wait for some time before we get a new album, as Lotusflow3r is released in Europe now and he is pushing MPLSound over here a bit and it seems like he hasn't given up on the project just yet.

Still, what do you think will it be?

Some fans are still waiting for a full non-stop hard rock/blues album (and, to be honest, that definitely would be amazing to have).

Right after the release of Lotusflow3r he stated in an interview that he is working on some Jazz things right now (but he is working on something all the time, isn't he?). Personally, IF something Jazzy, I want something really Jazzy and not too "lite". Something not so conventional and groundbraking in terms of songwriting, rhythm and musicianship. Something experimental! nod

Either would make me so happy - the follow-up to what he started on Chaos, or something really challenging and experimental (which even Prince, with all his songwriting and playing experience will have to spend time on!).

I liked where he was going with the remake of Large Room With No Light. I wouldn't mind an album in that vein. A return to the feeling of The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale would make me happy. I know I'm probably in the minority, though.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

A cd of covers would be nice..I'd like to hear his studio version of Miss You and other classics. And as a bonus track: Prince's cover of Motorhead's Ace Of Spades! biggrin guitar ....that would be nice smile

I did like that one, too. The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale is a very, very underrated collection of songs, in my opinion!

That's another thing: I don't want a collection of songs. I want an album. A creative project, a feeling, a theme, a process and a conclusion.

I really like Lotusflow3r, but I feel like Prince thinks the fans who wanted a real album are stupid and he can fool them by simply mixing the ending of a song and the beginning of the next song together, to sort of make it sound as if they belonged together, although it has nothing to do with good sequencing or two songs that really belong together like, for example, side one of Parade of The Marrying Kind and If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life.

Lite Jazz like that would be cool, too, yes. But I think I would be more awed if it was something challenging. Something that musicians would sit listening to with headphones and ask themselves "how did he do that? What kind of crazy chord progression is THIS?" Something that might take several listens to really get stuck in someone's ear. You know what I mean?

I think it's cool to throw in a cover or two from time to time live, when the occasion fits.

But I don't like the idea of Prince doing covers for the sake of it.

The covers he did on albums had a meaning for him, he really wanted to release his take on what he thought was something exceptional. So, in the end it WAS Prince music.

Doing a cover for the sake of having played this or that song on record might be a bit boring for both artist and fans. With a bit of experience and talent for arranging songs (which Prince surely has plenty of) you can re-record ANY song, actually and make it sound interesting to some listeners. However, evolving an idea and putting pen to paper to really write a song is something different - something I want from a genius like Prince.

More of a combination of the last 2 albums

more Rock Funk with the linn / Minneapolis sound, he needs to get bobby and sheila to do the linn work, they did really good with the sound

stay away from the 'racial social' issues like Dreamer(the music is hot but the lyrics are too weak) love the music though

I'd love for Prince to have a double cd. I'd love to hear the same songs on both cd's...

One Prince and guitar or piano...and the other cd with the full band. I even have a name...

Prince could call it Raw and Polished...R.A.P. cool

Yeah, it would certainly give the songs a new dimension and another way to connect to them, now that he doesn't play so much of his latest stuff live anymore... sad

I hope his next album is all funky outtakes without any edits. A pure vault album. None of this "jazz lite" shit or any ol' kinda music with a Linn beat in it.

God no!

Jazz would be cool, new funk would be better but, i think i want him to go OTT on experimentation. I want him to try things others won't dare!

Some hypnotic ambient tracks in there...Just things that would totally challenge us.

On the more traditional side of things, would love a blues album.

But hey, i don't wanna give him my wish list, love is free from all this.

The Vault abum is ever so cool. Love every track on it.

I'd appreciate something with a little jazz and how about throwing in some bossa with it too.

But I'd also like a thumping track here or there with dark heavy bass, not any high pitched shrilly sounds. No screeching guitar for me but a hynotic rhythmic beat that I cannot sit to, but am forced by nature to jump up, dance and shake my brain!

I would normally give my usual answer which is classic "Old Prince" with the Minneapolis Sound but I'm afraid that it would be another "MPLShit" album which took the Minneapolis Sound and ruined it with current shit hop elements.

At this point, I really don't give a damn what he releases next just as long as it has no current shit hop elements or slang whatsoever. This time, I'm not going to buy the album on the day of it's release like I've been doing for decades. This time, I'm going to wait to read some of the reviews on the org from the Music: Non-Prince section which has less koolaid drinkers, and if they don't sound good to me, I'm not going to buy it.

it's about time he put something worthwhile on that piece of shit website
of his and set up a retail section.

no new album as such, i just want songs. song after song after song.

start with two or three dozen outtakes from ALL periods of his carreer and
just release EPs of new music. cool ideas that fit together well.

let stuff simmer for a while before he releases yet another full on album.
if anything, all i want now is some jazzy thing as an "album" but for the
pop/rock/funk fix i'm desperate from just occasional tracks.

not one or two every 3 months but *bam* throw 45 of them right up on that
site. and release 2 or 3 live shows (complete, unedited) every few months
as well.

it's about time he started to let some of that stuff out already.

I'd prefer his next album not be a jazz album. He attacks jazz like he does hip hop--constantly taking more and more stabs at it instead of just letting it go.

I do like when he incorporates jazz elements into an over hybrid sound, but not when it's just blatantly lounge-jazz.

Whatever his next release, I would just love to see him put emotion into it. Even though I loved lotusflow3r and also love some of the tracks on MPLSound, the emotional resonance on them isn't stellar. He sound more like a reverend than your ex lover or friend....it tends to make immersing myself in the album less likely.

The last time he conveyed any real emotion on an album was Rave Un2's "I love U but I don't trust U anymore.".

Although he's had love songs since, they're paint-by-numbers when it comes to emotion. If he redid Musicology but put more emotion into his ballads, it would actually end up being a great little album. shrug

I would assume the new cd will be in the jazz vein and contain In a large room with no light. I just hope he fuses his jazz-I think that's when Prince shines. The studio version of IALRWNL -although good-is to clean and pristine for my taste. I like my Jazz, like I like my funk-Dirty. Jazz at its best should be free flowing and not pristine. I think that's why I prefer the live version in the Montreux show better. Prince in Montreux, one of my all time favorite concerts.

A human album with real subject matter like growing up in minny in the early politically charged 70's, marriage failure, wendy and lisa, what really was going on with mike and how he felt about mikes later yrs., sex-where he was and where he is now, friendships old and new, hip hop old and new; how he felt at first, Obama; not just the spiritual dogmatic hardline but on a personal level, mortality;not just the bullshit i still look the same crap, let this song be absent stylist, dye, hairplugs, make up and photoshop, Miles: the man he knew and why he couldnt hook up,Exlore the No More Candy 4 U concept more specifically from the perspective of a real talent who worked his ass off, WB how u felt then and now, Get real and specific in a song about content and why u need to control it-and do u have a plan for the young who want to know you, Being Rich, Being Short, Healthcare....i could go on and on but just a human effort would resonate remove the slickness and princebonics.

I would like a raw feel to an album, in the vain of the undertaker. Like the new power trio on the 28th august 2007 aftershow. Less polished and alot of atitude a a real sence of personal feelings to the songs... which I think he is missing at the moment, except in F.U.N.K.

Bring it on P.

Deep, dark, dirty bass housy progressive dance music.
something powerful but not with any elements of rock guitar. razz
I'd like more bass cool less rappy r&b essence. A bass that pumps my heartbeat.
Probably impossible biggrin
