Despite the subject matter I always find this song uplifting... anyone else feel the same?

It's the tribal drums that do it for me really... already can picture myself relaxing on a balmy beach somewhere in Haiti alongside voodoo priestesses with peacock feathered fans...

I really love this track, it's dark, and very atmospheric, I've got a bit of a low quality recording but it's still cool!

I'm not sure what to make of this song and the lyrics. Can someone be more specific about what the song means to them?

the bit about the 'child dying/parents cried for a week' is unsettling though.

I wouldn't say this would scare Prince a lot of his music has always been dark.
Even the sexual stuff is dark ie Computer Blue:Hallway Speach and the sexuality of those early years always had a tinge of danger too them
Even God the Dance Electric has a spooky feel to it
the best image of Prince's spooky side is seen in Purple Rain in his basement bedroom

Confession: I don't really like this song

I appreciate it for what it is, and it standing out in the Prince canon, but I just never really took to it.
