"Around The World In A Day"-An Album that deserves imperative recognition!!

So am I the only 1 that is in LOVE with this album?!! To begin with, "Around the World in a Day" is a truly amazing spiritual experience. "Climb the purple ladder" is something of true spiritual energy. I LOVE IT! The whole preface of the album is so moving. The first track speaks 2 me because I am constantly searching for a Utopia 2 escape 2. Prince is leading his whole congregation or what he mentions in the song "sexuality" where he talks about the "new breed". He wants us to climb the ladder with him and with this album he is truly articulating this concept. And the words within each song emcompas this theory. "Conditions of the Heart", "The ladder", "Paisley Park" (especially Paisley), all set up this PURPLE Utopia for us to frolic in. I LOVE IT! This is a beautiful and Brilliant concept! I mean- who is that brilliant that he is able to create this world of purple amazement!!?
What is also fascinating 2 me is how he can juxtapose gender as well as personas. This album is different, very different, but at the same time he connects it with the past albums that he has created. "Open your heart, open your mind". This his way of letting his congregation 2 know that life is all about imagination and power-always keep an open mind.

This album also articualtes some political theories as well with the song "America". This song shows how America is full of hypocrisy!! He is able to show political justice and express his opinion through the lyrics of this song. "America, America
God shed his grace on thee
America, America
Keep the children free". He does not want the generation of the "new breed" to have to be surpressed and held down by what the "man" says. He is mirroring what America is today and is playing devils advocate with you which is brilliant.

And then of course Prince has to end the album with "Temptation" whic is a sexy, jazz, sultry track that resembles a little bit of Jimi Hendrix. The song speaks for itself- it is sensual and erotic. However, this song does have a deep meaning to it. During this time period, as well as today, Prince just like every1 else is looking at his life and asking GOD 4 guidance. At the end of the song, GOD comes 2 him and tells him that he needs to change his ways. However, he does not know what to do seeing as his fans believe that he should be nasty and the lust that Prince has inhabited towards women makes him volnurable 2 temptation. Prince is trying not 2 sin which is what most of us try 2 avoid no matter how much we want 2. This is an essntial learning experience.

SO CLIMB THE PURPLE LADDER EVERY1!<3PRINCE LOVES US ALL!!<3

The lyrics are really ambiguous, but yeah, I agree. I don't think it's a patriotic song at all.

i always took that song as his kind of youthful, misguided, kinda naive approach to writing a patriotic/edgy song. lyrically i think it's certainly a product of its time.

Love the Album...

Prince has evolved musically through many layers of expression over the years.

I love where Prince was at this time in his life and even moreso now...24 years later. cool

This album is great and I think it was very cool and bold for him to depart from what was expected after purple rain. Jimi Hendrix, dont ever compare the two. Why do people do that? Black? Plays guitar? Was Jimi the only black guy to play guitar? Are we so limited ? C'mon, jimi is dead and they do not have that much in common. Prince doing drugs in the 60's? I remeber that? Get real.

Yes, great album, better yet, fantastic album, except Rasberry Hat. I love it but the hit status brought him down.

Agree with you so much, condition of the Heart yes!! Killer album.

Love it!!!

RB is my fav P song....ever!!

and even the B-side shes always in my hair from this era is in my top 10.

A ballsy move after PR, he could have milked PR 4 yrs, but he has always danced to his own tune, which is what makes Prince unique.

A classic.

There were a lot of people involved in this project

But David Coleman was the originator of the song Around the World in a Day, studio time from Prince for Davids Birthday and from there there are a few different versions even one with a hot bass line
