When U Were Mine

Such a great pop song! I was listening to Taylor Swift "You Belong With Me" and I kinda reminisce of Prince's tune. It kinda of makes me wish P would do an album of catchy pop stuff like this. Your thoughts?

I Love this song...

I've never heard, "You belong with me."

Sometimes I wonder if pulling out some of the older songs for 2day's radio could be a good idea. cool

My favourite all time prince song. I love everything about it. The punchy new wave beat, the synth riff, the lyrics - everything. Its one of the most perfect songs he's ever written. Even listening to him perform it live today (i heard a live version on the recent Monaco / Montreux boots) still gives me that rush that only prince songs can as it has a kind of exuberant flow to it, in spite of its lyrical tone.
Seeing him do this live on the ONA tour was a magical moment for me - i looooove it when he puts a guitar solo on this track. Also loved the way he performed it on the lovesexy tour with the horns.....he can never do this one enough.

Definitely on of his greatest compositions.

The fact that so many artists, coming from different musical directions (indie, country rock, even electro) have covered this tune, tells a thing.

His minimalistic 'new wave' version pisses all over that horrible, cheesy eighties-pop version of Cyndi Lauper.

Well, you know how a married couple would sleep in their bed and their six year old child would come in between them cuz they're scared. That way... lol
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

He meant it figuratively.

You know...like how Princess Diana once said, "There were three people in this marriage." Meaning her, Prince Charles and Camilla. I sincerely doubt they ever had a three-way.

Prince and Lady Diana are quite different. He is quite explicit in the rest of the song (never mind the rest of the album - check the title!), so I'm betting it was literal.

Really is a perfectly-crafted rock/pop song, easily one of his best (and by best, in Prince's case I mean top 50).

Strange then - one of his finer songs from one of his most critically-acclaimed records, but it doesn't get a lot of recognition or airplay? confused

I wonder if it was Birmingham UK, that's my home town. I can dream... It's one of my favourite tracks. I turned the riff from this and 'I could never take the place of your man' into MP3 ringtones. They've come out horribly crackly, but it's a little piece of Prince with me.
I'm looking out for a purple dolphin.

"Sleeping in-bewteen the two of us"

I don't think it was controversy that Prince made in his early music.
It's just a lifestyle.
Eye wanna make Love to U,
2 times maybe 3,
If u want to go 4 or 5,
Baby that's alright with me,
eye will be your little baby,
eye can be your big strong man....
