Swedish Secretary of the Treasury quotes Prince in European Parliament On 2 September, the Swedish Secretary of the Treasury Anders Borg addressed his counterparts in the European Parliament and attacked the banks by quoting Prince! "The bankers have been partying like it's 1999, but it's actually 2009 now", Borg said.
Borg said that the bonus tradition in the banking world has to stop, and that this will be a topic for the G20 Summit in Pittsburgh 24-25 September. Link: http://www.e24.se/bransch...542415.e24 | |

It is amazing how much of a colloquialism this phrase has become. I bet that there are many younger people (younger than me-29) who know and use the term but have no idea where it came from.
As an aside, I was 19 in 1999 (I turned 20 late in December of that year). Consequently, I did the bulk of my partying in 1999. Because of that, this song has a certain significance in my life. I abdicated the throne in Ithaca, but now I am...

In a related story, the Swedish Secretary of the Treasury Anders Borg was sued this morning by Prince for unauthorized use of a Prince song.
