Does anyone dislike the Camille voice? I have recently been asking myself whether or not there is anything that all orgers agree on. It certainly isnt songs or albums. However, I can't ever recall anybody saying anything too negative about the Camille voice.
Are there any orgers that really despise Camille? For the record, I like Camille. I abdicated the throne in Ithaca, but now I am...

I just think there might be a couple of songs that could have done withOUT the Camille voice, but overall it doesn't bother me. However, I don't think songs like "FUNK" are meant to be Camille.
There was a Camille thread a month ago, touching on the same subject: http://prince.org/msg/7/313919

For me personally, I have never liked the Camille voice. When I was young I would play normal sounding songs on the record player and put the speed on 78 and laugh my ass off at how funny it sounded. Thank God for live versions of some of those great songs I feel he ruined on tape. TRUE BLUE

I didn't like it at first..When I first heard it, I was like what the fuck...Over the many years I learned to love it. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I think it was cute schtick for a minute. I really find it annoying now, though. There are no Camille songs in my top 10, that's for sure. I love the song SEX which has a similarly pitched vocal, but that wasn't Camille. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

back in the day, when SOTT was released, it annoyed me at first. Now I absolutely love it and think it works beautifully. * * *

No. Camille as a character was circa 1986, but a couple of songs from the sessions were released later. From Wiki: Camille is an unreleased album by Prince, recorded in 1986. The album was planned to consist of 8 tracks recorded by the singer in a funky, sped up vocal. The album was to be released under the name Camille (who would not be pictured on the cover) and not as a Prince album. Much of the music has been released officially in some form or another, however, one song, "Rebirth of the Flesh" remains unreleased in its original form. In 2001, a live rehearsal of "Rebirth of the Flesh" recorded with the Sign "☮" the Times band was released on Prince's website. This version however had a profanity edited from the lyrics. The album was cancelled weeks prior to its release in favor of the more ambitious Sign "☮" the Times album. The concept itself was also abandoned and most of the tracks were incorporated into Crystal Ball, which evolved into Sign "☮" the Times.
"Rebirth of the Flesh": Prince recorded this song at Sunset Sound on October 28, 1986 on the same day as "Rockhard in a Funky Place". When the Camille album was shelved, the song was slated for inclusion on Prince's next album project, Crystal Ball. It was going to be the opening track segueing into "Play in the Sunshine". The NPG Music Club made a 1988 Lovesexy Tour rehearsal recording available in September 2001, which means that all the Camille tracks have now been officially released, although the original studio version remains unofficially released on bootlegs. "Housequake" "Strange Relationship" "Feel U Up": This outtake was recorded toward the end of 1981 and was taped in sequence with "Irresistible Bitch". Both songs were re-recorded later. "Feel U Up" was re-recorded in 1986 and the lyrics to both recordings are very similar. The track was finally released in 1989 as the B-side to "Partyman". "Shockadelica": Originally written (unsolicited) by Prince in response to Jesse Johnson's then forthcoming album entitled Shockadelica (1986) because that album had no song to match/compliment what Prince felt was such a great album title, "Shockadelica" was later included as a B-side to "If I Was Your Girlfriend". "Good Love": Released on the Bright Lights, Big City film soundtrack in 1988. "If I Was Your Girlfriend" "Rockhard in a Funky Place": Also included on The Black Album (1987) project. There are other songs recorded using the Camille vocal that were made after the Camille project was abandoned, including "Scarlet Pussy", released as a B-side to the 1988 single "I Wish U Heaven" featuring a black label with the artist "Camille" credited in deep peach. Also, "U Got the Look", which appeared on Sign "☮" the Times and was also released as a single. The video taken from the film Sign "☮" the Times helped sales of the single tremendously. (The music video also helped to dispell erroneous reports that the person featured on the previous single Sign "☮" the Times was Prince in drag. The video for "U Got the Look" introduced viewers to the newest member of Prince's band Cat Glover who was unmistakably the woman featured on the aforementioned single cover.) If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It sounds Camille-esque to me. I'm aware of Camille, the album.
