Dance Electric is his best song, in my opinion..

I prefer his version over Andre's, but he uses profanity at the end of the song when he calles out The Revolution (Who don't really perfrom on the song-other than background vocals. It's probablly Wendy, Lisa, and Sussanah). Plus, Andre sounds like an official release.

Can you imagine that.. A song about Humanity changing because the end is near, and YHWH is going to "pull the plug" (Or allow humans to do it to themselves because of their Sins) has profanity at the end of the song..

"Look. We're living in Babylon. Making but not feeling love at all.
When your youth is gone. When it comes to dawn. The light of Truth will shine and you will fall!

Some people cannot really believe that "Freaky Prince" wrote those lyrics, but he did. I think that the song was not much of a hit back then for Andre, because it was telling people to change their ways.

Still, it his greatest song, and perhaps the greatest that he has ever written.

It's not a pop-sellout sounding song.. It's futuristic and funky (probably his funkiest song ever).

Straight-forward, and not heavy-handed.. He's not trying hard to be a genius here..Not sounding too preachy..

On the demo, you can tell that he was feeling it in the studio..especially near the end of this song. I can feel the "fun" in recording this song.. I can feel the enjoyment of it beyond its lyrics.

It's 1985... This song sounds a bit like score for "The Terminator"..I think that is for a reason.

Andre is stil producing and last time I spoken with him, he was more than cool with that. It's not nor was it EVER a compettion between A.C. and Prince. Dre never set out to become a superstar in the 80's which was proven in the direction that he always took his albums in. "A.C." with Dance Electric on it was Cy's most commercial album. All of the albums that he released, I thought were very cool. Now if you personally didn't like any of his albums, more power to u. But no one who knows anything about Andre would ever state that the cat wasn't talented. To answer what I guess is what this thread is supposed to be about, yeah, I think Dance Electric is ONE of the best tracks that he gave to another artist. I have stated on here MANY times that I always wished P had kept this one for himself. Again, like I have stated in the past, I wish this would have been the name of his follow up album to Purple Rain and booted ATWIAD into the vaults. He could have put She's Always In My Hair on the Dance Electric album along with 100 MPH, Hello and Electric Intercourse. Instead of wasting the God vocal as a b-side to Purple Rain, saved that and included it on the Dance Electric album. That would have fit theme wise since on the God vocal he says "Dance the Dance Electric"

I´m not aware of any profanity in that song. Where do you hear profanity in the Dance Electric?

Fuck no. There are so many more interesting songs he's given to other artists. Shhheeeiiittt. Most of the songs on The Time's first three records are better than The Dance Electric, as strong as that song is.

Not to mention great songs by The Family, Eric Leeds, Martika, Jill Jones, Mavis Staples, Sheila E and material intended for others that still remains unreleased.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I agree with u on other songs. That's why I stated in my initial post, Dance Electric is ONE of the best. The material on The Time's first album is definately some of my favorite. Although Andre had his hand in that too. I always felt P wanting A.C. to do The Dance Electric was a make up of sorts. To give back. Just my thought. But yeah, the whole album of The Family and Sheila's first album, man, that cat was not fucking around. But to me, The Dance Electric has always been a personal fave of mine. One of the most favored tracks that P has ever done, to me. Andre's version, the mix and the way it's mastered is obviously cleaner but I personally like P's version better. Except for those crazy as percussions towards the end. razz I know my girl Jennifer loves this track to death as well.

Yes, I absolutely LOVE The Dance Electric. I really think if he'd put out Dance Electric as a single following PR it would have been MASSIVE, people would have gone absolutely nuts for it!! And I strongly agree with Chris, that if he'd released this as his next album after Purple Rain, alongside tracks like God vocal (See my signature!), Electric Intercourse etc etc. it would have been a HUGELY successful follow-up album, he had all the material there and it all fitted together... All those amazing songs got kind of lost to the general public. But I also agree that Dance Electric was a 'make up' gesture to Andre and he probably thought it would make him a star in his own right. If he'd released Dance Electric as a follow up album, and THEN released ATWIAD, that might have been cool. I think he was too quick off the mark to show everyone he could do 'something else'. Seems a shame... but of course we weren't able to advise him at the time wink

Oh, and I don't think it 'tops' other songs he did, like 'Nothing Compares..' and so many more. I just think at the TIME, well what I said above... biggrin

i'd have 2 go with either 100 mph or love thy will b done. which would make sense since he reclaimed it during the exodus/gold experience era
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Wise words as always. Not hatin' on AC, just very surprised that he stopped making albums. If he's happy doing his own thing then cool.
