Hello everybody! Much love to all of you. After lurking since my teens (I am now 29), I have finally joined this site. So, in light of all the recent Prince vs.... topics, here's a new one:

Prince vs Dolly Parton

Both are ageing artists who have been around for quite some time (Dolly more so than Prince). Although I quite enjoy the recent ouput of Prince, with the exception of MPLSSoUND, I do tend to think that many of his recent albums lack consistency.

I became acquainted with Dolly Parton through my girlfriend and was blown away! Most of her catalogue is great (I am still discovering), but I was especially impressed with the fact that at a quite respectable age she managed to create two absolute masterpieces: The Grass is Blue (1999) and Halos and Horns (2002).

Why is it that some artists age better than others? Don't get me wrong, I love Prince. But the work of Dolly at a late age is simply brilliant. I hope that in the near future Prince can retain such heights.
