Kiss (another one that cracks me up every time...especially because I remember my mom and her friends giving me grief over why he ruined a perfectly great song by hollerin like a damn fool.) That scream in particular really does crack me up. it's like okay okay Prince, you don't care about astrology! we get it! There are an article in the New York Times not too long ago about the rock n roll scream. I mentioned Prince in the comments and editors chose it as one of the featured comments. I mentioned "Endorphinmachine", "In This Bed..." and "When Doves Cry".
Was interesting hearing who people thought were the best screamers in that comments section. http://www.nytimes.com/20...cream.html Every now and then

I've always been impressed with the vocal work in "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic". He damn near screams the whole song, in falsetto... that's quite a feat!!

[Edited 8/29/09 20:19pm] Yep...I've stated that on here several times. To me, that's his screaming album, hands down. Kinda surprised that no one on here mentioned "God" vocal. That cat reached something else on that. Jeffiner (Jennifer) would attest to this. She must hadn't seen this thread cuz she would have most certainly stated God as her pick. A-Ha! I wasn't imagining the "God" scream. Unfortunately the only record players I have access to have broken stylii (sp?) so I can't confirm. I will NOT ruin my purple vinyl! Also, I wimped out on mentioning it because I really didn't want to have to get ka-ray-zuh if someone tried to punk me online for doing so. But I now remember those exact screams. And no, not the best. But another one that cracks me up. Love the recycling of the "hahahahaha" from Darling Nikki too. Thanx!

the scream he did live while singing The Beautiful Ones in LA on the Musicology tour...my seat is never dry after that. Huh-naaay, u are so right. I must say though, each time I've seen him do that song live, it has the same effect...for, over 25 years now. OUCH. Anyway, shoot, it has the same effect whenever I watch the movie! (And I ditched school -- with permission -- to go to the premiere.) G'Lawd is RIGHT! lol Thanks for great posts, all.

Amen, on this one. His screaming is fantastic on this, and it's so in the background too. It's either between this, Something In The Water, and the end of Now (which trips me out every time I hear it).
