On the The Vault:Old Friends For Sale. i believe.

That's different from the original Parade era version(unreleased)

Yeah there's the original version with no strings or horns. Just piano and vocals. Lyrics say "I know I know LA is calling", "They say you lost your fire" (my preferred), then there's 2 versions with strings and horns. There is one from 91 era with different vocals and lyrics. I think the strings are over the top and then lyric changes completely changed the meaning of the song.

I think the original version was written about when Big Chick betrayed him.. The newer very mentioned "river flows black in Persia", "he had been with my sweet baby", has more a meaning about love and relationships...The original was more about his career.. Much more compelling.

I have heard yet another version with much more reverb on the vocals. I think Prince must have recorded and remixed at least 4 versions from what I can see but none of them capture the original version raw emotion.

The one on Old Friend's For Sale" the album is not the version on my list.

Funky Design and Mad were released on NPGMC for download on the same day in 2001.

That's right, the best & my prefered is the original

He mentions Steve (Fargnoli) saying people are saying Prince's kingdom is fall
2 Friends (Lisa & Wendy) got stuck in the snow

I first heard this on the radio as a promo to the movie, taped it everytime I heard it, that was 1985 Prince talked about it in an 85 interview when driving he let the interviewer preview OF4Sale and Strange Relationships

This song like Hello are classic songs that deal with a mesh of things surrounding his fame

The two friends that got stuck in the snow were Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. It's about when the duo went off and did some production work and got stranded in Atlanta because of a blizzard. They missed a show (Lisa had to play keys and Jerome pretended to play bass while Prince played from off stage) and the two were subsequently dismissed, though Prince denied firing them in a 1990 interview.

After reading everyone's lists, I have come to the conclusion that Prince has indeed released his best music.

There are some good songs that are unreleased, but nothing that anyone has posted just screams "THE WHOLE WORLD HAS TO HEAR THIS!"

Great post. I read all of these lists, considered the bootlegs I have heard, and came to the same conclusion. Based on what I have heard, the best stuff has seen official release.

I wouldn't mind good versions of "Extra Lovable", "Wonderful Ass", "Moonbeam Levels", and the full version of "Computer Blue", but it wouldn't be that big a deal if they never materialized.

Some of the things people have listed (like "Crucial" and "Last Heart") were officially released on Prince's 1998 Crystal Ball project.

No order (...and yes I know it's 6!):

Open Book
In A Large Room With No Lights
All My Dreams
Rebirth Of The Flesh
Love Thy Will Be Done
Journey 2 The Center Of Your Heart (I'm pretty sure this has officially appeared somewhere? squirrelgrease?)

geek Journey 2 The Center Of Your Heart is on Chaka Khan's CD in the New Power Pack. lol

Love Thy Will Be Done is a great one, too. I don't know which version I like more. I'm kind of in love with the guitar heavy and "shhh"-style drum workout NPG remake, but it needs Prince's vocals badly. The version with the One Of Us drum pattern is still uber awesome too, though. It usually tops my lists, but I forgot about it.

The whole Choc Box album, if that's what it's called...?

Esp:
Data Bank
We Can Funk(with horns,not keys)
Witness

I still think he should release it as an album, not in pieces like Movie Star on Crystal Ball.

I steered well and truly away from that power pack. Although I did hold my nose and buy NPS. So I feel no shame in not knowing that! (...well maybe just a little).

This version on Chaka's CD, I'm assuming it's not with P's vocals? Or is it? The version I'm talking about has P's lead vox.

I'm with you on Love Thy Will Be Done. I find that NPG version not so satisfying as Sonny T (I think it's him?) does't have the range, & cops out on a few crutial notes. The guitar is great though.

I would kill for a crisp version of P's recording. Mine's a bit warbly,

Yeah, the Chaka CD "Come 2 My House" has her lead vox and maybe Prince's backing vox on "Journey". If you have the Work It set, you probably have the best available versions of Love... Thy Will Be Done available.

1. All my dreams
One of his greatests song ever, released OR unreleased

2. Crystal Ball
The 10 minute version with the 'brothers and sisters of the purple underground speech', the original bass-solo and Wendy and Lisa still in the mix (he sorta butchered this song on the Crystal Ball-set)

3. Joy in Repitition
The version starting with the bleak drums, and, more important that great guitar solo mixed to the FRONT, so you can actually HEAR it...lol

4. Old friends 4 sale
The sober piano / vocals version with the original lyrics (2 friends of mine got stuck in the snow...)

5. Thats the girl of my dreams
Just a perfect little rock and roll-song within 2 minutes. Unusually raw and basic for Prince.

If i had a harem [the live version from Vegas back in 99? is killer with fantastic blues guitar from Mr. P]

12.01 - not often discussed but another killer blues track , i only have this on DVD from the musicology tour.

I wonder - beggars belief that this has yet to see the light of day.

1000 Hugs and Kisses - crying out to be sung by a female diva.

God is alive - I only have the version with Mavis and P, i believe that there's an uncirculating version with many guest vocalists on there?.
