Suggestions for a Prince mix?

I've gotten a request from a music junkie friend to make a Prince mix for him. It needs to be something that highlights Prince's range of style and talents, and something that spans his career. Trouble is, Li'l Bitch has such a vast discography I'm stuck even on a starting point.

Any suggestions? What would you put on a Prince mix?

I always wanted to hear a blending of Prince songs by Prince and other artists.
As if they were performing a duet. Such as a splicing of "when you were mine", starting the first verse with Prince, a dual chorus of Prince and Cindy Lauper, the second verse be C.L. then finish with Prince. But that's just my wish, your friend might have other wishes.

I'd start with something that shows his vocal range maybe Ur Gonna C Me(Ona Piano), 2the9's, I would die 4 u, etc. I'd include hits that people think belong to others, but are really Prince's lol like Nothing Compares 2 U and I Feel For You. What about some rock? Maybe Boom and Let's Go Crazy(gets em every time lol ) Finally, I'd showcase our man's piano & jazz skills with A Case of You, West, Xcogitate cool If that doesn't get him there's always the sexy Prince songs like Come, 319, Gett Off- works for me falloff

Well it's sorta what mix would he like?

Prince's work is so diverse that you need to narrow it down a bit. A funk mix? A jazzy mix? Or just something spanning the years that shows what he can do?

A carefully chosen live bootleg might serve you well.

if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

That. Something that spans his career that highlights his range. The guy who's asking for this mix has only ever heard the "hits" and SOTT, if that helps.

I'm really at a loss where to start with this, honestly. lol

Are U looking to do a megamix (beat matching BPM's) or something like The Purple Medley? I won't get into my suggestions until U respond and I have more time...
If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

Nothing along those lines. More just a collection of good examples of the lil fella's work for a beginner. A sort of "Prince for Dummies" if you will. smile

:uhuh:

That collection sucks. It's nothing but a collection of the most well known songs before 1993.

Naw, this guy's into some serious music. I'm sure he can handle more than the Dirty Mind/Controversy era.

What he asked for was something that spans the purple one's career and range.
