How did such a non-conformist become such a conformist?

This question is more of a discussion, than a question, because there's no right answere.

But, as I'm listening to "Come" right now I kind-of got a kick when Prince says "fuck." It was so normal and now it's so verbotten.

All of this, of course, ties to his religious beliefs.

Is a life so devoid of classification and rules almost attracted to a world of strict rules.

Possibly, because they're spinning out of control and have no happiness.

Maybe structure is happiness?

So let me get this straight...

U think that Prince deciding not 2 curse makes him a conformist???

WOW.

I really like that I can play Prince's music 4 my 7 year old daughter, and she loves him.

prince was during his life searching for guidance and rules. it took a while for him to find out what rules make sense and are true and what rules were not.

from the moment he found his answer on his spiritual quest he conformed himself fully with the wisdom he had gained.

he grew up.....

like we all do

most teenagers/younger folk drink, smoke, swear, have unprotected, sex-talk or think about sex ALOT more than you do when you hit -say your thirties-

so-by yoyur forties-its even less

by your fifties-it's just not the done thing to walk in a room all cursing and talking nasty stuff-sleeping around-most of the stuff you did when you were younger-unless all your friends are teenagers..... wink

then-your pretty much doomed to trying too hard to appear young-which is alot more tragic than growing up and accepting some things just aint cool for a grown man or waman to do forever

ok lol and no-i aint tellin you how young i aint

I would argue that Prince is even a bigger non-conformist than he was before.

1.How many pop/rap/rock acts today say "fuck" in their lyrics? Certainly more than when Prince was doing it. Swearing is SO very common place in pop music now...who cares or notices when it is so expected. These days, Prince is damn near non conformist by NOT doing it.

2. Prince is not conforming to his fans expectations/wishes/earlier precedents. He is, as always, doing exactly what the duck he wants to do. Prince is being himself...hardly conforming.

3. Prince's religion is hardly mainstream...in fact, there is a lot of intolerance and venom spewed about his faith. I see it here at the org every day.

4. Even if Prince is conforming to JW expectations/rules: Is he really? Look at how he dresses, hear the (still) super sexual lyrics. "Wet circles 'round the toy..."....is that really conforming?

Possibly, because they're spinning out of control and have no happiness.

Maybe structure is happiness?

Quite a leap to ask such a redundant question (generalize) about an entire group of people, let alone Prince.

lyrics. Changing them. Trying to pass off frauds to the general public. Just because you got divorced, and then cut the father out of the family picture don't mean that he never stuck his dick in your twat and created those kids!

So you equate a grown man of 50 attempting not to be vulgar as altering history? Ok, gotcha.

Why are a bunch of conformists questioning the degree of Prince's conformity.

Stop living through him. He's 51.

It's more than an atempt to not be vulgar. It's an assault against his own life. The history is plain to hear for billions of people across the planet and no amount of massacre will change the fact that he's trying to pass of a facade for the real thing. If he doesn't want to hold onto his past, he should create a future.

Swearing is vulgar--that's why its called cussing.

Shock-value is why people do it.

At twenty you get a pass.

At forty-fifty its rude, crude, uncouth and ignorant.

A man (or woman) that routinely cusses is boorish no matter how much $ or fame.

I wouldn't say he's a conformist now but I think he had some tough times in life and found some solace in religion and following its teachings more strictly. I think it's all a result of some pain in his life...getting older is not fun in general as many of us older org'ers can tell you.

But he's always been very passionate and very mercurial and totally into what he believes at that particular moment. That's part of being a nutty (and brilliant) artist.
