With 319 he created one of his coolest sounds ever. It's hard, it's dirty and it fits the theme of the song very well. It's a really good song, the story about a photo shoot is hot and different, and his falsetto fits very well too.

"My Camera, You and me alone" sounds like Miss Piggy. It makes me cringe.

It's funny say that, I remember in 1994/5 there was some thing about it being from the Batman sessions, I remember reading Cat had said she had heard it in 1989 or something. Bunk obviously, I guess it's the synth horns, they sound like Partyman and that era. It was Warren Mason who ran "The Vault", a fantastic site that had tons of Prince articles from newspapers etc, who had a letter in Uptown that argued that there's a ton of stuff on "319" which suggests it could be from 1989, but Uptown said they'd never found evidence of that. IIRC Ben & Kev from The Org should have a copy of that site somewhere, given to them by Warren, but they never put the articles back online. I absolutely love this song, I think it just bares down that it has that "old school" prince feeling to it, especially now reading that it sounds like something from the 89 era, which I've only just come to twig myself but definately fits in right

Love it. Each time it comes up on the album I just have to listen to it several times on row.
It seemed a bit out of place on the record itself when it came out originally in the mid-90s, but in retrospect it's just Prince updating some of the trademark things he did in the 80s for the 90s sound. It's a whole lot more successful an effort in that sense than some of the stuff on Emancipation or Rave that would fall along the same lines.
