When did Prince reach his creative peak?

In ur opinion, when did he reach his creative peak. Im sittin on my bed at 5 am listening to the Lovesexy cd and i just had to ask this question. many have said 1987, 1988 and even as far as 1995. In my opinion he hasnt reached it yet. i guess cuz im young idk. But i remember in 2004 i became a fan again after leaving him in 98. I remember buying the musicology cd and thought it was kinda lame and it wasnt cool to be a fan in school...until 2006 when he came out with 3121. i really think he made that cd to appeal to youth and radio. songs like Love and black sweat sound very commercial. Prince has surprised me within the past few years. I enjoy the 3121 and Lotus cds and I am really amazed at the tv appearances hes made-superbowl,3 nights in a row on leno, saturday night live, rock and roll hall of fame, etc.

1995 - 1997

I really like the era of the first NPG. Gold Experience, Emancipation... to me that was the peak.

Sex in the Summer is a prime example. To create a really good groove from the heartbeat of a baby is very creative. It shows what Miles Davis was saying that Prince thinks in another language... the language of music. I hear a noise it is a noise, Prince hears the same sound it is music to his ears and he is able to duplicate this music with instruments.

that is creative... I haven't really seen any of this on the latest projects.

1 would think that his most lucrative period or most financially successful period would be. Some would/could say 21 Nights would be a financial success. From my point of view, his creative peak was up to Jam of The Year Era.

1987
Prince slammed into the creative brick wall 87 and since has been unable to create anything slightly original, this is something that may be a normal peak all artists hit when the reach their mid-thirties because it seems to happen to most of the best rock/pop/RnB artists. Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Prince, Bob Dylan, Rick James, etc. etc.

EVERYTHING Prince created in the 90's was a huge step down from his earlier work, that's including the cringe inducing Gold Experience.

1986

the success of SOTT & Lovesexy was riding off the creativity and energy of the 1978-1986 years, most of the SOTT album was created with his previous peers and even some of the Lovesexy music like Eye No-Ball I think he could have continued with it if the SOTT/Lovesexy band remained in tact, but once they were split it all started going down hill a bit

1 reason why is his surroundings, the people in his life and the fact that he hadn't gone hollywood yet(meaning he still wasn't caught up in the fame issues)

It's almost like Eddie Murphy, he best stuff was his most raw and 'street' stuff, don't get me wrong:Dr Dolittle and some of his work in the last 10 years are good but don't touch stuff like Coming 2 America, Boomerang and the stand up stuff

Prince's 1978-1986 and I'll include 1987/88 was still pretty much 'street' homegrown, non effected by the fame, the people in his life during these years were much different than those that followed too and made a difference

Prince's 'muses' had negative or positive effects on the music as well
