Pretty sure it was Apollonia...His AMA's performance of Purple Rain was awe inspiring too. His Guitar solo in the end was perfect and had the crowd waving their arms together....it gave me goosebumps. His 87 MTV performance was cool too. I loved the jeans outfit he was rocking, soooo 80's, LOL. 1985, by that time Vanity left the Prince camp. Yeah, i'm pretty sure it was Appollonia too. Cheers for the response.

Then they all marched up on stage and lined up behind P. P was killin' it with the peach cloud guitar. Yeah, that award show was ALSO out here in So Cal! Good pick...I never see people mention that one on here and I tend to forget about it. I used to have that on vhs but the tape ribbon snapped. I STILL say the AMA in 85 when P performed Purple Rain is my all time tv performance...But shit,....I gotta say the 87 MTV performance is right behind it because THAT was a super cool performance no doubt. [Edited 8/28/09 1:06am] u know he got that from GCS right? the whole band with a snare drum thang L40, u KNOW I do! I just didn't want to mention Graham Central Station cuz u know,....didn't want to upset anybody and shit. For one, u know how people on here are towards Graham. Has anyone here seen it before or remember watching it live? I remember very well that performance, back in the day, people used to say he tries to be James brown... The performance was clearly a rendition of the Night Train performance i remember also that he had his vocals off... So he was just yelling in the mic the entire song, not really singing...

He's always known that people pay their money and come out to see A SHOW, not someone dressed in their street clothes just standing still stumming a guitar and moaning into a microphone, he Never disappoints. Never! although he's slowed down in the last years, he's still the best performer I've seen.
The whole post was on point but I'm totally feeling the bolded part. Thank God Prince isn't normal and boring like that. Despite the great music I don't think most of would have noticed him if he was"normal and boring". Just imagine how the movie Purple Rain would be if everyone looked just like your average everyday person.

Lot of people on here who hate on Graham knew nothing about him playing with Sly or as an artist with GCS. And can careless about it. The ironic thing with Larry and P is that P was taking things from Larry, especially from Graham Central Station, years before P had any association with Larry. I believe that to be absolutely the case! Back in the day, the party wasn't ON until somebody threw on "The Jam" by Graham Central Station, WHAT?!?! Though my favorite cut is probably "Entrow" on the "Mirror" LP (...also, "Love (Covers a Multitude of Sin)". But then don't sleep on the title cut of the "Now Do-U-Wanta Dance" album (...long before Roger Troutman got a clue), or "Earthquake" either - talk about tearing the roof of tha sucka! So many of the Larry haters know nothing of the vast amount of Funk Larry brought to the table all through The 70's (...and beyond). His work with Prince has done nothing but enhance Prince's repertoire.

I haven't seen anyone on here diss GCS or Larry's bass work with Sly & The Family Stone? Its simply resentment over the stifling conservatism and religious bigotry he brought into the Prince camp.
