Anxiety said: the song is a lot of fun musically speaking, but it's also (in my opinion) one of the most bitter and paranoid songs he's ever written.
so way agree. The song puts off an air of nonchalance and that he doesn't care, yet how would he know if there are haters on the internet if he's not looking like he says he's not in the song? And if he didn't see the haters and still wrote a song about them that is even creepier. To make things even scarier, if the song was inspired by nazi youth reporting back on the opinions of others and he went ahead and created a song devoted to said haters, it wasn't even based on his own vision but the heresay of others. Completely paranoid that you would have to have a team of monitors sweeping the web and reporting back so you can create songs about them [Edited 8/24/09 12:36pm] 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

That's what I'd like to know. who the hell needs to write a song directed to every single group of people in the world who might possibly harbor ill will against the writer of said song, then hold the withdrawal of some kind of reward over their heads? i think that's petty, bitter...and yeah, paranoid. maybe i'm still stuck on his whole "eye wish u heaven" trip. i need to bitter up and get with the times.

I would say Annie Christian is a paranoid song... but not this one. This one is a moralistic one like Pop Life but he tries to be fun by being catty child faggy and popping off one to the internet haters (which have been reported about in the news, the whole conflict over youtube, etc) I also think its a very sophisticated throwback to the dirty mind/controversy mentality of song writing. He's proving he can jet back to a past frame of mindset create if he wants to. You know like Ronnie Talk to Russia. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Sometimes those are the best songs. you can really tell the songs that Prince spent alot of time on and one he didnt...the sparsity and the unpredictability shows and usually always works in his favor. Its that god given spark. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I don't understand how the song is paranoid... it indicates no perception of danger to Prince.... it's condemning and preachy, like Pop Life or even Postivity.. but done with the same childish kind of vibe as "Uptown" + "Ronnie Talk to Russia"
It also is not directed at anyone in particular... it's very general... why are you all saying actors? Which actors? I think this is the song of Prince's vision as the moral majority... kind of like "Dance Electric"... like a preacher or school counselor or homeroom teacher of the pop world lecturing.... Now imagine that same website full of vile comments about your art, your choice in women, your business practices, your choice of religion, the clothes you wore last night, etc. Since a good amount of orgers believe that Prince does read these threads however randomly then it's safe to assume he's read enough toxic topics to write far worse songs about or directed a any particular group. Bottom line is if you can't take it, then don't dish it out! Prince is still a human being with feelings and like most of us doesn't need to have everything thing we've done criticized to death especially when that criticism isn't constructive. Go to work tomorrow and tell all of your co workers from now on to feel free to comment on everything they perceive you've fucked up over the years and to tell you every time they think of something. I'll bet you'll want to do more than write a tongue in cheek track to some quirky beat!
