you kinda put all the labels and types of fandom on yourself dont'cha now.

That's what fans like us LOVE about the org... we throw you Fams a bone and you come back with some of the best craziness the world has ever seen... nutty

Prince, I fully understand why you hide yourself away, play shows in places like Monaco, and charge maaad money to join your website and see you live! Separating the wheat from the chaff, smart move dude, smart move! thumbs up!

hmm wait a second here... if i read you right hmm looks like you're saying you think prince WOULD make a great goatherd? don't get me wrong it's okay if you disagree with me, there's room enough for all. there are likely a LOT of people who think prince would take excellent care of his goats, if he had some. others who will stand with me in the I Don't Think So crowd. so where are YOU standing? with the pro-goats folks? because, it's just, i mean if that's the case, i think it would be better (and frankly make it far easier to understand your post), if you could explain in some detail exactly WHY you think prince would be good with goats?? peace rose

first of all, i don't think prince would enjoy looking after goats because being a goatherd does involve a lot of walking. some of it entirely uphill. and secondly, imo prince would look kind of weird wearing the traditional knee high leather boots and leather vest of the goatherd after all these years of wearing high heels and silk in public. would he be comfortable in that role? could he be comfortable~?

so, like i was saying, even though i'm a huge fan of prince i think as long as he sticks with making music and albums and videos and such he'll be just fine. but, as you pointed out above he's full of surprises and i'd be really surprised if he were ever successful at goat farming. rose

NOW you're talking! prince will thank us someday for our help, and for our kindness in letting him down gently regarding the goat farm. anyone out there think prince would do well with ducks? i do! so let's keep the livestock ideas coming!

The middle of the roaders are used to compromise and hand-me-downs, and tolerate abuse because they know they don't deserve any better, know when something is cheesy, but wont complain too much because mehh whatever...

The second group with the herpes and hemorrhoids have impossibly high standards in music and that's why they became Prince fans in the first place.

This is why I resist stopping by the org. I easily get sucked back in. It is the most entertaining...second most entertaining thing on the internet.

I thought I was a catgory 1 fan until I started spending time here. I really never imagined how extreme people could get. I am very relieved to find out I am middle of the road.

I'm the type of fan who doesn't like a lot of Prince's work but is in awe of other parts. I also don't subject other people to his music as I'm easily embarrassed and know by now the looks I get when I play the Rainbow Children at work (usually followed by comments like, "What the fuck is this shit you're listening to!?" And that's "shit" as in the brown dog chocolates that fall from your ass.)

I'm also the type of fan that gets hold of bootlegs and the like and then doesn't listen to them all. And live shows that just aren't that great to listen to.

Apparently I also don't know my funk from my cottage cheese.

And is Imago suffering from low self-esteem or high self-esteem? The latter is present in school bullies, although having Imago pound your ass around the back of the bike sheds is probably far more painful than having your ass kicked around the back of the bike sheds. No offence intended Imago wink

Of course this is all debatable, no? I mean, one man's vagina is another man's scary furry melting thing.

But I guess we all have our criteria for what we think a good Prince fan is.
There are some who think a good Prince fan is one who should love everything
that the man does, focus only on the positive, and reprimand those that don't
think the same.

But upon pondering this method or mode of fandom, I find it to be a bit taxing
on the person. Firstly, being a fan in this 'all or nothing' category requires
that you've seen this:

..dreadful movie, and then find something positive to say about it. Perhaps,
we could point out his wonderful hair? I mean, it is nice hair.

But after so many Jugheads, Wedding Feasts, and Arms of Orions, you ended up
losing yourself to this singular devotion to Prince I think. You went to see
him perform in O2... perhaps 3121 at Rio... and you thought the truncated,
jazzed up versions of Kiss or Delirious were brilliant, didn't you? And even
if you didn't, you dare not mention your true feelings of it. For how could
you do so now that you're in just that deep? One can't say Graffiti Bridge
was a great movie and then turn around and say they didn't like Musicology. It
just doesn't make any damned sense. So the 'all or nothing' approach is a
path that can only lead you to insanity.

But then there's the other type of 'fan'. The one that only likes one part
of Prince's career. Or only likes one part of his musical palette. Maybe
you only like the funk of his pre-Purple Rain era. Perhaps you only like his
booty shaking, panty droppin' plastic years music. Or perhaps you only like
it when he rocks. Either way, you hate everything else he's done and you
think that he is over. That Prince, is...done.
The problem I see in this is that you may think Prince is done, but there's
one thing I know about Prince. It's that he loves hair relaxers and a good
hair iron. But one more thing: He absolutely loves to surprise us. You can't
go about thinking his career is over, because Prince will prove your ass wrong.
Lest we forget that everyone thought Prince's career was over after Graffiti
Bridge. And if the law of karma was true or if there really was a God, Prince's
career should have been over--cause that shit was rank. But what
happened? Prince released Diamonds & Pearls, worked that album like a 9-to-5
and scored several top 10 hits while wearing assess pants, pencil think beard,
and a scary typhoon do. He can, if anything, achieve the impossible. To write
him off at ANY point in his career will end up with you being proven totally wrong, for sure.

Then there's the fan like me. One who has found 'the middle way' of Prince
fandom. I still buy his albums even if I dread what they may sound like. I
dreaded the thought of Lotusflow3r and believed it to be a potential suckass
album. But I wasn't going to just write him off. I knew that Prince had a few
tricks up his sleeve yet. Prince is like that innocent girl in biology class
you happen to run into at the party. In school she seems so reserved and
predictable. But after a couple of beers at the party, she's giving the most
amazing blowjob of your life.
So no matter what is going on his Prince life. No matter what religion he joins
and barely lives by despite what comes out of his mouth, I know.... believe
me.... I know. Prince will surprise us.
So the middle way fan loves parts of Prince's catalog that make us happy.
We detest the parts that just isn't our thing. But we know that in the future
he'll always throw something else at us that may make us quite happy.

We view the first type of Prince fan with only pity and sometimes repulsion.
We view the second type of Prince fan as being very similar to us, but with
a scorching case of herpes and a bad temper. We are comfortable in our
pragmatic and practical approach to our fandom. We are comfortable enough
to praise when praise is needed, criticize when we don't like something, and
in the end realize that Prince is just a singer/musician/song writer that
has for one reason or another turned our ear his way.

What are your thoughts? I'm particularly interested in hearing from you
fans in the first category because you're the ones that have a uni-bomber
vibe to you.

I don't think there's anyone else I see more eye to eye on this issue than you. There's periods of his career I adore and periods I despise(I can appreciate why people can/do like them...just ain't for me....like how country music is a valid art form....just not for me.) I'm more a fan of his live performance than anything...so when songs have a live performance feel to it...I'm more than likely gonna like it/love it. Most of his official live CD's I like a lot. But the Rave period and the second run of Hit and Run(NewPowerSoul) Period were TERRIBLE and uninspired(imo...tho I think it swing closer to fact). I Adore the Dirty Mind Period to the Parade Period...then It starts lagging for me. Batman I LOVE D & P not so much...prince is the BOMB.... What I'm getting at is the periods I like/dislike are so different...it's not like I only like the funk or only like the R & B, or only the rock...it's confusing for me cuz stuff get's so mixed up. People LOVE FutureBaby Mama...but honestly...it's trash....

I think what it boils down to is...I DON'T KNOW! Some songs have the magic.....others don't have it at all...what pisses me off the most is when Prince pretends songs have magic when they dont. Anyone in their right mind knows that Push it up is a piece of trash. I understand an artist has to have confidence in their creations....But when your kid is acting bad...u gotta put it in the corner. He don't do that and ends up with WAY to many Bebe's kids

....but yeah...I'm A BIG fan...I sa that all the time...but am also the fist to admit when summin is trash.

I also gotta confess I have some guilty trash treasures...like Arms of Orion> Ballads aren't usually "go-to's" for me...but the classics I can't deny...along with this piece of trash....DAMN U ORION!
