Lotus & Mplsound is proof that Prince shouldnt retire anytime soon

A Few weeks before the Lotus cd came out,I heard a rumor that Prince was gonna retire from the studio,i thought that he was gonna continue touring cuz thats when he makes the most money. Then I hear about a new album, then i hear 4 songs that i keep on repeat until the new album finally comes out. Then i rush to the store and I could not believe wat ive hear. I have listened to Lotus and Mplsound about 60 times so far. Songs like Chocolate Box,Dance4me,and Colonized make it evident that at 50 he does not need to be retiring soon. I wonder whatelse he has in him. So wats your opinion? should he keep going or just quit and maybe release vault stuff?

Retire and open up the vault.

.....

only kidding, but i think he should only do an album every 3 or 4 years (only the best stuff) then release vault/live material and the odd single inbetween albums.

simples.

Why retire? The man still produces top rated music. I keep hearing that he is 51 as if that is OLD. The man still looks better than most in their 20's and 30's and his output is far superior. Just because there isn't the radio play, we all know who controls "RADIO".

My advice to Prince is release Commercial stuff to deals like Target and use his website and release experimental stuff which all the "TRUE ADMIRERS" of his music through the website, Lotusflow3r.com. Just my opinion.

I don't c Prince ever retiring. Music is 4ever in him. He don't have a reason 2 do so anyway. Prince is still building tha vault. He's still recording and performing, that's not gonna stop no time soon I don't think.

I'm all for him keeping the pace he has kept for thirty-one years solid, if he wants to. But if he needed a year or so to himself to relax, I couldn't hold it against him. My hope would be that if he did chose to retire at any point in the next twenty years that he would come out and say so.

Bowie's been oddly silent for five years now and I imagine that means that he's done with the game, though I pray I'm wrong about that. My point being that the suspense is killing me. I used to live for a new Bowie release or tour, from Earthling to Reality and the beautiful tour he did in 2004.

As much as Prince is heavily criticized on everything he does and chooses, here on the ORG, this place would implode if that happened.

I'm imagining the ones that criticized the most, would be impacted the hardest, and the ones who appreciate Prince's musical and stylistic decisions would almost expect it.

If ANYTHING has been the cause of Prince changing his mind about the internet, calling it "a black hole", it is the ORG...

I'm sure that "No More Candy 4 U" is directed 2 the ORG. "The haters on the Internet" is most certainly directed 2 this site.

That being said, I think Prince's constant need 4 new music, and 2 create, will keep him recording 4 the rest of his blessed time here on Earth.

When that time passes, "the haters on the internet" will be hurting the most with regret.

'Lotusflow3r' stands up 2 any album Prince has ever recorded.

Sorry... I'm usually much more positive.

PEACE.

I respectfully disagree.

Just to be clear, I disagree with the idea that Lotusflow3r stands up 2 any Prince album ever recorded. No of course he shouldn't retire!

I understand what you're saying Giovanni, I KNEW when I heard 'No More Candy 4 U' it was directed at us, and had a horrible feeling for a moment. But I feel I've never criticised Prince or judged him unfairly, but we are all entitled to our opinions. Whether they are well received or not. That is how the world is now. I really feel that if he was a little more accessible and not so aloof when it comes to the internet then there wouldn't be so much of the 'hating', but obviously that's his choice. It's also our choice to come on here and comment on things we see and hear, and it can't always be 100% positive, there are musicians and grown up people on here (I know you're one of them), and maybe these things could be taken on board and help him see others points of view to a degree, it must help him to know what people want from his music and from him as a musician / entertainer. He does, after all, have to sell some of this stuff to make a living...do you know what I mean? Oh, and I don't think he should retire for a second... he's too good to retire, just think he should get touring, another extended stay in London would be great!

sad sad

Dont want him to retire now...

I'm a new fan of his quite young, I woul like to hear more "contemporary" music from him...

But if he feels like retiring, dont hold him back... Just look at what happened to MJ.
We fans sometimes ask too much... Those musicians are still humans after all

In a strange way i think he has retired. I'm not to sure where I am going with this but what I mean is that I think (Apart from major money) he does it all for fun now. he enjoys playing the music more than creating it. I think people dont like the music as much now because Prince is now a professional. Historically he was an artist screaming about his identity and his issues-Prince nolonger needs that (I feel). he can now kick back and enjoy

I agree that his new stuff just is not as good as his old material. I confirm this just by realizing that I don't listen to the new stuff after a couple of months after its been released.

I want to love it, but so much of it seems rehashed, over produced, over thought and ill conceived.

Musicology was the last great full album he's released.

Planet Earth was his worst album ever. I have not listened to Planet Earth since I bought it.

Lotusflow3r and MPLSound would have better as one album if he would have trimmed the fat.

Release a new album when you can make a whole album worth listening to, and vault stuff in between.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of these Prince fans that want him to sound like "the old Prince". I don't want Prince copying himself, I just want a full album of great material.

And this is just my opinion, but REALLY? you really think you're going to be listening to these albums in their entirety in a year or after? There are songs that are really good. But I think most are throw-aways.

honestly, i listen more 2 his new stuff and get more xcited about it then albums i have had 4 years ..so yeah, i could c myself listening 2 these albums in their entirety still ..

i listen 2 his albums always in their entirety unless it's those rare occassions where i need 2 hear just a few songs and that's it ..

IF he had ONLY released MPLSOUND, I would have hoped he retired. That is Prince on auto-pilot going through the motions of beating a dead horse. For me its tied with TRC as worst Prince album ever.

Lotusflow3r on the other hand to me shows he still has some decent art left in him.
