Doesn't "Who Is It" remind U of "Theives"

I'm not saying anybody copied off of anybody but I do think that throughout the years both Prince and MJ were inspired by each other. I was listening to Michael Jackson's "Who Is it," from "Dangerous,"and it reminds me so much of "Theives In the Temple," from "Graffitti Bridge" a year earlier. Am I crazy or do the lyrical content of the songs sound alike?

Thieves In the Temple

Love come quick
Love come in a hurry
There are thieves in the temple tonight

They don't care where they kick
Just as long as they hurt u
There are thieves in the temple tonight

Love if u're there come save me
From all this cold despair
I can hang when u're around
But I'll surely die
If u're not there

Love come quick
Love come in a hurry
There are thieves in the temple tonight

I feel like I'm looking for my soul (Soul)
Like a poor man looking for gold (Gold)
There are thieves in the temple tonight

Voices from the sky say rely on your best friend to pull u through
But even if I wanted 2 I couldn't really truely 'cause my only friend is u

Come on

There are thieves in the temple tonight

Kicking me in my heart, tearing me all apart
(Tearing me, tearing me, tearing me all apart)
'Cause me and u could have been a work of art
Thieves in the temple

Baby don't u know I'm holding on
The best that I can
Love please help me be
The better man

Better than the thieves in the temple
In the temple tonight

Oh, thieves in the temple (Tonight) tonight
Hurt me

Love come quick
Love come in a hurry
There are thieves in the temple tonight

Thieves in the temple

U said u loved me! (Thieves in the temple)
U said I was your friend! (Thieves in the temple)
U were supposed to take care of me! (Love come quick) {Thieves in the temple}
U lie! Love come (Lie!) in a hurry (Lie!)

Thieves in the temple tonight

Who Is It lyrics

I Gave Her Money
I Gave Her Time
I Gave Her Everything
Inside One Heart Could Find
I Gave Her Passion
My Very Soul
I Gave Her Promises
And Secrets So Untold

And She Promised Me Forever
And A Day We'd Live As One
We Made Our Vows
We'd Live A Life Anew
And She Promised Me In Secret
That She'd Love Me For All Time
It's A Promise So Untrue
Tell Me What Will I Do?

And It Doesn't Seem To Matter
And It Doesn't Seem Right
'Cause The Will Has Brought
No Fortune
Still I Cry Alone At Night
Don't You Judge Of My Composure
'Cause I'm Lying To Myself
And The Reason Why She Left Me
Did She Find In Someone Else?

(Who Is It?)
It Is A Friend Of Mine
(Who Is It?)
Is It My Brother!
(Who Is It?)
Somebody Hurt My Soul, Now
(Who Is It?)
I Can't Take This Stuff No More

I Am The Damned
I Am The Dead
I Am The Agony Inside
The Dying Head
This Is Injustice
Woe Unto Thee
I Pray This Punishment
Would Have Mercy On Me

And She Promised Me Forever
That We'd Live Our Life As One
We Made Our Vows
We'd Live A Love So True
It Seems That She Has Left Me
For Such Reasons Unexplained
I Need To Find The Truth
But See What Will I Do!

And It Doesn't Seem To Matter
And It Doesn't Seem Right
'Cause The Will Has Brought
No Fortune
Still I Cry Alone At Night
Don't You Judge Of My Composure
'Cause I'm Bothered Everyday
And She Didn't Leave A Letter
She Just Up And Ran Away

(Who Is It?)
It Is A Friend Of Mine
(Who Is It?)
Is It My Brother?
(Who Is It?)
Somebody Hurt My Soul, Now
(Who Is It?)
I Can't Take It 'Cause I'm Lonely

(Who Is It?)
It Is Friend Of Mine
(Who Is It?)
To Me I'm Bothered
(Who Is It?)
Somebody Hurt My Soul, Now
(Who Is It?)
I Can't Take It 'Cause I'm Lonely

And It Doesn't Seem To Matter
And It Doesn't Seen Right
'Cause The Will Has Brought
No Fortune
Still I Cry Alone At Night
Don't You Judge Of My Composure
'Cause I'm Lying To Myself
And The Reason Why She Left Me
Did She Find Someone Else?

And It Doesn't Seem To Matter

Who is it is a good pop song with good, albeit, looped string arrangement but, that's what the whole song is, looped to shit. Unbelievbly repetitive....as was most his work post 80s

verse, obvious melodic hook, verse, obvious melodic hook x2, bridge, obvious melodic hook x4 till fade. All with looped programming.

This was the jackson rule that made me bored of him.

Thieves is great, especially the extended version, that version wipes the floor with that generic pop song!

So, no. Not a like.

I can't believe even the most diehard Prince fan would choose a generic pop song like Thieves over MJ's Who Is It.

I've always felt that Thieves was a cynical attempt from Prince to try and create a 90s When Doves Cry. Obviously it's no way near as good.

Who Is It is an incredible song. The beatboxing, the synths, the strings, and those incredible ad-libs. It's full of passion and unlike Thieves, it hasn't aged a day since it's release. Almost everything Prince did in the very early 90s has dated horribly, with the possible exception of a handful of slow jams (Damn U and Money Don't Matter 2nite).

Thieves... generic? fishslap
The remix is among his greatest work, imo.

But that's the beauty of entertainment choice: there's no wrong or right and there's no black or white peace (where's the moonwalk emoticon?!)

Not really. I like Who Is It and I love Thieves In The Temple but one never reminded me of the other.
After carefully reading the lyrics I can see some similarities though, but overall, I think they talk about slightly different things.

Sorry I don't see the similarity at all. Both great songs though.
Thieves in the temple is for dancing & Who is it, is for listening...and it's a pure love song about lost love. TITT to me is more about a search for love.

Very welll said Who is it is the work og genius and one of michael best work. Often people will look at the lyrics on paper and see how simple it is and dismiss it as a silly pop tunes .... its far from that its amazing and one of the best songs made. Full of passion.

A search for love?!!

It's the object of his affection he suspects of sleeping with another.
She's the temple, the other guy(s) is/are the thief/thieves in the temple . . . .
