This has always confused me. Personally I think Come is amongst his best work of the 90's. From a pure production standpoint it's nearly flawless (listen to space for reference). It's a dark record with great songs and highly creative. It has aged remarkably well and I'm surprised he doesn't play any other these tracks at aftershows. Different strokes for Different folks I guess. What are your thoughts, or am I the crazy one (wouldn't be the first time)? I mean these great songs:

Come
Space
Pheramone- what the hell is this song about?
Pappa
Dark
Solo- yes this song is vastly underrated here. Vocal performance is amazing.

maybe it's me. I mean I also think Controversy is a better album than Dirty Mind I seem to be in the minority there as well.

GREAT cd indeed!
I've been listening to it for about a week.

I love LOOSE, LETITGO and ORGASM!

SOLO is an u-n-b-e-l-i-e-v-a-b-l-e song with the most unearthy vocals I've ever heard!!! I travel to another galaxy with this... rainbow

highfive Lark, can we be friends? hug

I agree with you 99% (personally, I've never liked Solo, but I agree completely with the rest of your post). Come is a great album and I constantly find myself wavering between it and prince for my top choice as Best '90s Prince album.

And about the part I bolded: I'm right there in the minority with you! wink

I agree, Solo is vastly underrated. And you're right on the money, the production of Space is among the finest of his career.

Anybody see the Act II show in Los Angeles at the Universal Ampitheater in 1993? They played a version of "Come" over the PA before the show and it was awesome. It was far more percussive than the version that was on the album. I'd love to have that version. I was disappointed when I heard the version that wound up on the album.

I like Come eek but i think the licking /sucking bit on the horn solo a bit much. prefer the version from the Beautiful Experience better.

Don't think the Prince fanbase hates on Come at all. It wasn't a mainstream hit though thats for sure.

I agree, that sequence is the only part on the album I really hate. I made my own edited mix of "Come" that basically fades out early, and works well. I also clipped the keyboard at the end of "Come" and added it to the start of "Space" so Space doesn't start so abruptly. Works nicely smile

I have never understood the resistance to Solo. This is one of his most fantasitic songs ever. It's just haunted. Is that it? Are people afraid of this song and what it represents? It's so abjectly devoid of anything positive and I love it for that very reason.

I have said it before: poor songwriting / below mediocre compositions, delivery mostly bland / on autopilot, lame production.

Apart from the songs Letitgo, Papa and Dark (which arent exactly as great as many of his eighties classics) this album has no redeeming features at all.

5/10

Love it! This record is very emotional, the speeds are from One MPH in the song, "Solo," moving up to 90 MPH with the song, "Loose." cool

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
