musically speaking...who are the direct disciples of prince?

prince is a disciple of jb, sly, jimi, and joni. what acts have benefited immensely from prince being on the scene since 1979? (not saying that they wouldn't have been great aren't great without the "next prince"/prince-esque chain they had to carry)

d'angelo
van hunt
lenny kravitz
janet jackson (control/rhythm nation)
sheena easton
jimmy jam/terry lewis (as producers)
the bangles
sinead o'connor

I wouldn't say that Sheena Easton, The Bangles, or Sinead O'Connor fit this bill at all. Their body of work is wholly different sounding than Prince, and aside from a few songs he penned for them, they have no connection to Prince.

The others on your list are very valid examples though, especially anything Jam/Lewis related.

I would also add Terence Trent D'arby and Ready For The World to that list. RFTW, on some songs, are nearly indistinguishable from Prince.

Ready for the World lol
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Tevin Campbell-such a great voice/to bad his career got derailed. I think he could have been a huge talent.

Speaking of Tevin-I wish Prince would reach out and help him out again. I think this could actually work this time.

Oh ok I´ve never heard anything about it. Was this in the news??? I mean it must have been huge to finish his career. Does anyone know what exactly happend?
So what if he was with a hooker?? Who cares?? Ask any Hollywood Star aka Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, Martin Sheen etc they had 100s of them.

I agree, but I think it made matters worse because people always thought he was gay anyway before this happened. I never did, but public opinion is a bitch sometimes eek I hope someone can post the story.

Thanks for your question on Tevin Campbell. First, the question of
sex - It seems Tevin was arrested and pleaded no contest to soliciting
oral sex from an undercover (male) LA police officer. Here is an
excerpt from the 11/29/1999 issue of Jet about the incident:

"Singer Tevin Campbell was recently ordered to attend Narcotics
Anonymous and an AIDS awareness class after he pleaded no contest to
soliciting oral sex from an undercover L.A. police officer last July.

Campbell 22, was also fined $ 1,080 for the misdemeanor conviction. He
also was ordered to return to court in February to show proof that he
has completed the requirements of his sentence.

When he was arrested officers recovered what they said resembled
marijuana and a pipe containing marijuana, according to his arrest
report. Campbell was one of many men arrested in San Fernando Valley
section of L.A. for either engaging in lewd acts in public or for
soliciting lewd acts. The area of the arrests has several churches,
and elementary school, a high school, single family homes and
apartments. The arrests were made following complaints, officers told
JET."

Tevin's career apparently fell into steep decline after this event.
His last original album was from 1999 (the self-titled "Tevin
Campbell"). His last release was a best-of album in 2001.

agreed, Sheila is awesome cool She's supposed to do a show at the Jazz in the Pines soon. Though I don't know how I can make it to that one. But we'll see.
I'd love to catch her act live.... just once. that would be cool.

btw...folks... do Prince cover bands count? maybe not. I did catch the Purple Reign Prince cover band at Fantasy Springs casino last night. That was fun. And that's actually a good band ...

[color=violet]do you mean the Prince cover band ? or Sheila's show coming up or both? cool

the cover band was pretty cool. the venue was held in the rock yard at fantasy springs. It's a beautiful patio setting ... outdoors under the stars...which I love... I was standing at the top of the steps ... a little behind the stage, but I still had a pretty good view. The lead singer walked passed me a couple of times,...you know ...to jump back up on stage. I didn't speak or try to shake his hand....when the show was over...cuz I'm in the middle of moving and had cut all my nails off ...until I get done with moving. lol. And also ... I didn't have my camara with me cuz ... it's packed away somewhere. I basically just dropped everything and went to check out the show. I figured everything I have to do will still be waiting on me the next day. LOL.

anyway... I'm real glad I went and I really enjoyed the show. Also, because I arrived late and was worried that I'd only get to catch the last
5 minutes of the show...but to my very pleasant surprise ... they were workin' hard and gave a good long show. Played a lot of different songs from off of different Prince albums.....which I appreciated.

Lot of people were dancing and having fun. it was great.
Kinda wished I had spoke cuz I was kinda curious if they were on the org. lol.

And i'm glad someone agrees on Sheila!

I think it is everywhere. Not just musically, like mainstream music such as Britney Spears, but also in attitude. The ecclecticism, the rebellion, the internet, the control....
