This song is so not embarrassing. It has such a positive message! And it's fun to sing along to. I could read you poetry and then we could make a story of our own.

Anyway to cut to the chase, I was online researching various Prince songs, and I happened to come across one of his older cuts, Pussy Control. Needless to say, I was both disappointed and embarrassed that such a profilic artist would stoop to such a low level. While I consider myself a diehard Prince fan (I was born the year Purple Rain came out), I've heard about the song, but never had a chance to listen it thoroughly until today.
So my question is, when did this song come out (i.e. year, album period), and was Prince going for shock value when he recorded this? I realize the latter question may be difficult to answer, but all feedback is welcome. Lastly, was it just me or was I the only laughing Prince's use of profanity throughout the song? It's almost as if he was trying to be something he wasn't, a hip, young and exciting artist. Again, I'm interested to hear everyone's feedback... You have no taste my good man ! LOL why do I have no taste, because I don't like a song that many would be embarrassed to listen to.. I mean face it, there is a certain group who don't like many of Prince's 90s music, and I'm one of them.. I realize an artist can't always be consistent, but point blank the song is a joke.. Again, I'm entitled to my opinion just like everyone else is...

You're entitled to your opinion, sure - but if you can't back it up with anything substantial, as opposed to your generalisations and assumptions that only weaken your position, then expect to be shot down. (A bit like trying to inform people that this "ain't no Erotic City" when you've already displayed and admitted to a general ignorance with regard to Prince's music). How is the song a "joke"? Its a positive, feminist song which is also funny (but, I'm sure you weren't alluding to it's humour when you said it was a joke!). So, add lacking a sense of humour and basic comprehension to your lack of taste! And you call yourself "educated" And, do we assume that those who have also admitted to not knowing what the song is about do not have English as their first language?! lol I mean, Prince often has obscure and widely interpreted metaphors, but Pussy Control is about as straight-ahead as Prince has ever been, lyrically! [Edited 8/19/09 1:06am] ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...
