Anyway to cut to the chase, I was online researching various Prince songs, and I happened to come across one of his older cuts, Pussy Control. Needless to say, I was both disappointed and embarrassed that such a profilic artist would stoop to such a low level. While I consider myself a diehard Prince fan (I was born the year Purple Rain came out), I've heard about the song, but never had a chance to listen it thoroughly until today.
So my question is, when did this song come out (i.e. year, album period), and was Prince going for shock value when he recorded this? I realize the latter question may be difficult to answer, but all feedback is welcome. Lastly, was it just me or was I the only laughing Prince's use of profanity throughout the song? It's almost as if he was trying to be something he wasn't, a hip, young and exciting artist. Again, I'm interested to hear everyone's feedback... You call yourself a "diehard" fan, yet you'd never heard this song before and don't know when it came out? lol I attended his Glam Slam MPLS shows in 1994 when this song was introduced over the loudspeakers, and I can tell you that Prince absolutely WAS a hip, young and exciting artist at that moment in time. There was nothing unnatural about it, especially his use of profanity, which was common for him in many of his best songs. As for the lyrics, I think the whole tongue-in-cheek concept is just going over your head... but that's ok. Well I guess I should have clarified myself more when I proclaimed myself to be a diehard Prince. I consider myself more of a follower and admirer of his talent and catalog. I am a fan though, but not a diehard cause I didn't twice to buy his latest album, not to mention I think ALOT of his 90s stuff is mad cheesy, lol. I see some people on the forum agree with me when I considered it to be an embarrassing song.. but everyone is entitled to their own opinion..

I think you'll find that there are enough people here and enough people with really weird opinions (not that I think your opinion of Pussy Control is weird - just wrong) that if you were to say "I think clouds are full of tangerines and that's why the rain is so sticky" there would be about 15 people that would agree with you and would scour the internet to find evidence to back it up. I Love this song too don't think it's embarrassing, but I can see how it wouldn't be appropriate to play when in the company of certain ppl. ~ Violet Poetry Fiend

Horny Pony is in my opinion the most embarrassing hahah "Not to sound cosmic, but I've made plans for the next 3,000 years," he says. "Before, it was only three days at a time."

I like this song a lot. It's got cool rythmic singing with a good story and an importnant message about women.

This thread would be accurate if the words "most embarassing" were substituted with the word "best."

What I really, really love about this thread is how so many fams stepped up to defend a brilliant track! Somewhere Here On Earth

Great track, and would've been released as a single if it hadn't been right in
the middle of the whole Slave/fall-out with WB shenanigans. There's loads of unreleased remixes for this track that were all geared up ready for the single release that never happened. A couple did surface on a promo cassette, one of which was later included on the Crystal Ball set.

They played P Control on a late night sport show over footage for the womens world beach volleyball champs a couple of weeks ago.
I thought it was weak when I first heard the Gold Experience, just trying too hard. There are many many many more embarassing songs in his catalogue than P Control though. I can take it or leave it now.

You think? I think he's a fan, because of his screams...he had them at all of the right places...that's something that can't be written on screen. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
