Why is Prince STILL a Jehovah's Witness? OK, I understand why he became a Witness in the first place. There was the tragic death of his much wanted son, the death of his father had already accured and some say his mother's dying wish was that he become a witness. Enter a man determined to convert him named Larry Graham and there you go.
My problem is that although his TRC CD was very pro JW's that was seven years ago and the stuff he released on Lotusflow3r is a far cry from witness beliefs. Given that it's obvious that that religion is a poor fit for him and goes against everything that he most cherishes, why is he still with them. Examples; JW's on using the word Hallelujah. "Hallelujah!" That exclamation is commonly heard in Christendom's churches. Some people punctuare daily conversation with the expression. Few however, know its sacred meaning, and the lifestyle of many who use it dishonors God. "Hallelujah," explains one Bible dictionary, is a "word used by the writers of various psalms to join them in praising Jehovah." In fact a number of Bible schoflars point out that "Hallelujah" means "Praise ye Ja, [that is ] Jehovah." Prince's view on the use of Hallelujah; Well just listen to the song "Dance for Me". Seems combining the word with the words "makes me hot" is not a problem for P. I doubt that this is a song even an LA congregation would sing along to. Then this song also brings up the Bible scripture that JW's like to quote alot. "Everyone thatkeeps on looking at a woman so as to have passion for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart" Mathew 5;28. Seems P aint too worried about what's going on in his heart. Then there is the whole area of fornication. Another quote. "Some youths have engaged in oral or anal sex or mutual masturbation, rationalizing that these acts are not so bad because they think they are technically not "having sex". Such youths forget - or may choose to ignore -that the Bible word for fornication includes all those practices, wrong conduct for which one might be disfellowshipped. Seems P feels differently if the words of ELIXER are to be believed. He's all for it and sees nothing wrong with oral sex before or after marriage. Then there is masturbation. JW's think it leads to misconduct and should be avoided, They believe one should deaden that part of themselves so as not to develope a covetous sexual appetite. P on the other hand thinks it's so great it's worthy of it's own song called "Here Eye Come". Then there is the issue of Bragging, JW's preach against it. P can't help but let you know the he is "The One" with all the goods, who will show you his life of luxery because he's "Mr Goodnight" and "There'll Never B Another Like Me". I see HUGE differences in values here. So why stay with a religion that totally disagrees with you at every turn? What keeps him there? What religion should he choose next if he were to change now?

I think alot of those people would include practicing witnesses because he makes light of their beliefs and basically dares them to do or say anything about it. I have no idea what he gives financially and how that effects Bethals feelings about him. But the average Witness sees him as a crackpot and an embarassment.

I think Prince just likes "Concubine Thursdays" at the Hall. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I don't think it's anyones business but Prince's. I think people should leave this topic alone already. Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Being that there is a LOT of hypocricy(sp) in that religion, as well as many other religions, it is a perfect fit for Prince.

I really don't care if Prince is a Witness or not. What I do care about is Witnesses who call out others and yet don't say a word about Prince.

I don't know what religion alot of other performers belong to because they never talk about it. Prince however brings the topic up himself in interviews. That's what continuously puzzles me. Why does he keep bringing it up if basically he isn't too keen on practicing it? If he were to never mention it and I was to find out about it only through the grapevine as it were I would think well maybe that's something he's into halfheartedly or maybe he's not practicing it anylonger. But no, the guy clearly thinks of himself as a Jehovah's Witness. I got the impression while watching the Tavis Smiley interview (thanks zoe ) that he's in good standing with the JW's and can walk into any Kingdom Hall he likes with his head held high despite his lyrics being pro everthing the Witnesses shun. It's the disconnect that made me start this thread.

In the JW book "The Secret of Family Happiness" I came across this on page 24.
Subtitle; Keep Your Courtship Honorable How can you make your courtship honorable? First, make sure that your moral conduct is above reproach. Where you live is holding hands, kissing or embracing considered appropriate behavior for unmarried couples? Even if such expressions of affection are not frowned upon, they should be allowed only when the relationship has reached a point where marriage is definitely planned. Be careful that displays of affection do not escalate into unclean conduct of even fornication . Because the heart is treacherous, both of you would be wise to avoid being isolated in a house, an apartment , a parked automobile, or anywhere else that would give opportunity for wrong conduct. This little book is read by every JW who intends on getting married. Prince has most deffinately come across it and it's probably in some papershredder somewhere. I can not possibly imagine Prince sticking to handholding and kissing with any woman that he's interested in, never mind one he can perhaps invision as a wife!!! Of all the religions this guy could have picked this is undoubtabley one of the most far fetched choices for him. The only thing more nutty would be for him to try and single handedly revive the shaker movement!
