OK, I know Planet Earth isn't everyone's favorite album.
As a matter of fact, it was so terrible that it turned

love Planet Earth! His best album, IMO, since TRC! I prefer it over Musicology, 3121 and Lotusflow3r.

I actually really like this album and prefer it to 3121, the only song i skip is Lion Of Judah. 3121 had too many tracks that i skip, Love, Incense And Candles, The Dance, The Word. I know Musicology gett a baiting round here but i love that one too, still a couple of skippers though, Life O The Party and Coma...

For me it's one of those albums I just don't have all that much feeling for, good or bad. It';s just sort of there. I'm downloading nearly all my CDs to go onto my Ipod and I just looked at this one the last night and it's definately going on there (all my Prince albums are) and I'll give it another listen to see if my feelings have changed for it.

I listened to it again a while back, and i'm actually liking it a bit more in retrospect. There are some good tracks...

But a couple real clunkers, especially Mr. Goodnight - which does sound like a throwaway from 3121 - and Resolution, both of which have some of the worst lyrics he's ever put out.

And having W&L on a Prince album again should have been a huge deal, but they were largely wasted on weak tracks.

That said, there are few real gems. All The Midnights in the World is lovely, as is Somewhere Here On Earth. I like the One You Wanna C, although it is undoubtedly a Prince-by-numbers pop-rock track re-write of things like Cinnamon Girl, I Could Never Take The Place, etc...

Guitar is a cool track.

I dunno... i'm liking it more than I used to, but I still feel like it was a wasted opportunity.

I don't think it's that patchy. Sure it has the Revolution -vibe running against the 3121 / Musicology -vibe all the time, but I can personally handle such a polarity. I mean, the guy's been through plenty of different eras, and the way people write their music doesn't usually enable them to completely close off the mannerisms they were favouring during one time. Some of it is always going to seep through.

Far prefer it over 3121 or Musicology though.

Planet Earth .... Like of all of Prince's Albums in recent years may not be his best work but is by far so much greater than all the current 'crap' thats been played on MTV these days: Beyonce, Rhianna, T - Pain. Ciara and Akon and not to forget the crap that is Kanye West come to mind!!!!!

Some may think I'm crazy for saying this but some of the songs on it are some of my fav Prince tunes ever like 'Mr Goodnight, Future Baby Mama. Chelsea Rogers and Lion of Judah.

Mr Goodnight is one of my favourite prince songs of all time .... its amazing and I just don't understand why others fans don't like or apperciate it. It just hightlights that Prince is just getting cooler and sexier as times goes by!!! I cant believe someone of his age (51) can sound so cool and sexy!

Some songs are quite standard like Guitar and Resulution but its still a very fine album.

I think people need to listen to it more to fully to appercaite its greatness, personally there are some songs that I have put aside as ok and after a more through listen have noticed just how great it sounds.

I love Prince more and more each day and I think he looks and sounds better with age and yeah as we know we are never gonna hear Purple Rain again I think he is one of the few eighties legends that contunies to make outstanding music way after his peak. Look at Madonna for example she is often given credit for still staying in the game but her recent work is average and could be made by anyone. Her recent tracks like 4 minuets and Give it to me are nothing special! And that me being Kind!

So give me Planet Earth and Prince at his worse over any crappy contemporary singers with limted talent, overexposure and egos the size of the ocean any day!!!!!
