The happy Prince...

Now, you may be familiar with this title because it's an Oscar Wilde story.

The news is this:
a Greek director (Grigoris Hatzakis) is going to stage an adaptation of that story as a musical, next September in Athens.

And here's the plot-line as published on several sites:

"The famous singer Prince - performed by Victoria Tagouli - has become a valuable kitch statue, made of gold and precious stones, in a big city.
His only friend is a sparrow, nesting at his feet.
Now that he has died of an overdose and they made him a statue overlooking the city from above, he sees the plain people suffer and his heart breaks.
Yet he is trapped on his pedestal, unable to step down.
He begs the sparrow to act as a postman and distribute his useless wealth to the poor..."

Music is written by a Greek composer. No trace of Prince music as it seems.

Surely everyone in my generation knows about him, but is his name an attraction for that play? It seems they think so... But only the name (and a photograph they used for the poster) without any music? WTF?
And the story isn't complimentary either... I don't know what's on that director's mind really... And I don't want to give money to him to see it...

Is his name an attraction for that Play? Well only you can answer that-thats why I was asking if he was popular. Apart from the overdose take (which I'm sure is there coz thats what people associate with popstars death-and i'm sure it was written before MJ's death) its a really good story. I remember reading it as a child. However if the composer is following the story properly the Prince only learns about the world after his death because during his life he lived in a guilded cage. From the lessons learned he and the sparrow go to heaven. I doubt very much that the composer is projecting all that on to prince-it will just literally be the name (I hope)

He's already got MY attention... Who knows how many more will be intrigued by this?

Now that I come to think of it, the name is what makes it an adult play. Otherwise it would just be a play for children. But I'm afraid he IS projecting all that onto Prince... That character is apparently just a rich superficial drag addict before he dies (and with no music involved he's just that! an empty being)

Oh God-I hope thats not true. Maybe he is just using prince to get noticed but that story is not at all representative of P's nature-and that's not me being biased towards him. If it is a directors take on P-I'm sure Prince will surley have something verbal or LEGAL to say about it
