"Paisley Park Studio's" is Prince's stuff, and plenty of artists have chosen to work there and record. I trust that Prince is capable of producing his own music. cool

Wendy & Lisa should get to have a go.

So should John Legend, Wi.ll.iam (not sure where the interpunction goes), George Duke, Marcus Miller or Quincy Jones.

What?

Wendy & Lisa,John Legend, Will.i.am, oh really this is just getting out of hand with some of these now aren't we??? Now these last three names could probably make some great music together but no way is Prince letting anyone else produce his music. G. Duke and Miller together could come up with some nice for Prince to work alongside them as group but not them directing Prince. Cause I don't think that he would go with that cause he is too private a person and wouldn't get along with others unless he was controlling the situation.

I think a remix is pretty close to having someone else produce. Steve Hurley on Get Off for example. Prince also had a co-producer on Emancipation. I would however like to see a complete album produced by someone else just to see how it turns out!

George Duke's name has come up a couple times on this thread. That's an interesting idea that sends me thinking in a certain direction.

Whether P needs an outside producer or not I don't know but I do think he needs to transition to a new genre of music as he ages.

He's still lookin' good past 50 but a lot of his songs written as a younger man are not going to fit as well as he puts on more years.

Little Red Corvette at 60? I think he will start to look ridiculous if he goes that route.

I had to wince when I saw James Brown trying to perform his watershed years hits in the last years of his life.

Jazz would seem to be the direction P needs to go in to stay in synch with his station in life. He would get to keep the elements of sophisticated composition, virtuoso chops and keep it funky but leave the storylines of what's relevant to club kids behind.

Ima miss his dancing though. Thank God for DVDs.

It wouldn't be the end of the world if he did have a collaborative producer. We know he can do it all, but different people bring different things to the table.

I agree with this.We all know that he's capable of producing himself, but it wouldn't hurt to bring in some new inspiration and a fresh approach, which he could only get from another creative producer.

I laugh at the people that say Will.I.Am is terrible and then go on to cite "My Humps" as the only example, as if Prince himself has never made a crap song.

Fact is, Will's most recent solo album "Songs About Girls" is one of the best albums by any black artist in recent years. The level of songwriting and production on that album is killer, it's funky as hell, creative, well-written pop music at it's finest.

Taken a listen to "One More Chance" and THEN try and tell me a Prince/Will.I.Am collab would not work. Hell, they've already collaborated live. Will took the stage with Prince at 3121 Vegas AND 3121 London.

"Fact is, Will's most recent solo album "Songs About Girls" is one of the best albums by any black artist in recent years." OH NO U DIDN'T!

No.

Prince just needs good inspiration for songs.

I think the one thing that would have helped Prince in the past would have been to just get some decent rest. It seems he is taking his time more now that he is older and the music is better.

Some collaborations are nice but I find I prefer when he does it all himself.

I don't think so.I'd be so disappointed if he did let someone else produce for him. That's one of the things I admired most about him is that he did it himself. So what he isn't producing hits. The hits today aren't actually good songs. What I do hope is that he would come up with a cd with some of the real Minneapolis sound. That meaning not just some updated music with linn drums thrown in, but the synthesizers as well.

Who? Who has produced as many good songs (amidst bad ones on EVERY album)? Who else could switch up styles like the difference between his latest discs? I think he would do well to form a band of creative musicians that aren't the best at their instruments but do have very crazy new (to him) creative ideas he could incorporate.

I agree. It's about the songwriting and composition. With Prince, it's about the entire vision and package. Who's going to tell him that they're able to hear something he cannot?

Yeah, i think it'd be way interesting. an unexpected curveball from an artist whose built his career on such things. call it The Prince Experiment and have SEVERAL producers. Rubin, Saddiq, Quincy, Sade (the band), Nile Rodgers, Reznor (i'm on the bandwagon with him, haven't really heard anything but Closer from NIN),

Absolutely:

1) Marcus Miller

2) Steve Lillywhite

3) Wendy & Lisa

4) Jonatha Brooke

5) Jon Brion

Prince, if you have your next album produced by one of those people, I guarantee you'll experience a commercial and critical resurgence.
