It wouldn't be the end of the world if he did have a collaborative producer. We know he can do it all, but different people bring different things to the table.

I would have to say "no" in general but the Will I Am idea is deplorable. That Humps song has to be one of the worst pieces of crap ever recorded.

How about someone else producing Camille?

Mark Ronson would be interesting ... as others mentioned it's the material /lyrics needs igniting, other than that he arranges the music quite well.

Seriously. This is my one reservation about the idea of Prince having a producer; that if it were to happen it would most likely be some awful hip-pop flavour of the month. ill

...all prince needs is a real good D.J...someone who knows the cuts..the breaks..the beats and vibes on what the people want...
..prince should b the only one produce'in...
...being that people have betrayed him in the past...he should b VERY VERY slow in open'in his trust and give'in another producer a chance 2 hold his babies(songs)...
..but if he evers needs the name of THE D.J....holla-at-me!!..

I laugh at the people that say Will.I.Am is terrible and then go on to cite "My Humps" as the only example, as if Prince himself has never made a crap song.

Fact is, Will's most recent solo album "Songs About Girls" is one of the best albums by any black artist in recent years. The level of songwriting and production on that album is killer, it's funky as hell, creative, well-written pop music at it's finest.

Taken a listen to "One More Chance" and THEN try and tell me a Prince/Will.I.Am collab would not work. Hell, they've already collaborated live. Will took the stage with Prince at 3121 Vegas AND 3121 London.

I don't think that will happen. Madonna for example, uses 'hot' producers because she wants hits. Same with MJ on 'Invincible' (where he used far too many producers) ... he wanted a return to the charts after a long period between albums.

But I really don't think Prince cares about hits anymore. 'Lousflower' and 'Planet Earth' didn't even have any single releases. I think Prince wants to sell in the album format.

Remixes I can forsee. they may be useful in getting some Prince songs in clubs ('Dance 4 me' etc), but otherwise ... no.

Brian Eno would be interesting as he is a big fan of prince as a producer-so his take would be good. I think it would be very interesting because musos have different ears for different Prince's. However I think the problem for prince would be that when he hears a song in his head he hears the production as well-I dont know whether Prince is capable of even having a core song that can be played with

Nope, because that would mean that Prince would have to share in the royalties and he isn't about to give up any money.

Yes and no. Yes because it would be nice to hear what Prince would sound like under someone else for a change. No because Prince is still making great music to my ears. Whichever way Prince wants to go with his next CD, I'll be there to support it. nod
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

To the ones who say: he won't let others produce his music, i like to remind you that it has happened allready.

Emancipation, New Power Soul and Rave were for a large part co-produced by Kirky J. and not for the better, judging the generic R&B-sound and plastic drumbeats.

He also did let Ricky Peterson (IMO) unneccesary pre-produce songs like Five Women, The Most beautifull girl in the World and other songs on TGE.

I wouldnt call Lotusflower the kind of rock / guitar album i like to hear from Prince.
Sure, there is guitar on it, but in a too polished, 'Vegas'-like way. I am missing rawness, real soul.

My idea of a great Prince rock-album would be: Chaos and Disorder, but with better compositions.

Now we tend 2 generally agree, but how can U say that "Dreamer" and "Wall Of Berlin" R 2 polished??

Every instrument is raw and RIPPING.

His guitar has more of a tube-driven burning tone than ever, with tasteful use of effects. The tonal and melodic nods 2 Jimi R intentional, and yet pure Prince.

Dreamer is one of the more rawer cuts on the album, i agree. But IMO he is too busy 'channeling' Hendrix there, he is showing off, instead of being really authentic.

Wall of Berlin is a bit too quirky for me as a song. Nice guitarwork, but he doesnt touch me on 'gut-level'.

I hear what you're saying. Nothing has a sound like Bambi, Electric Chair or Endorphin Machine.

I agree completely. I think another reason lotusflower isnt the guitar album I wanted because there's hardly any hard hitting, loud distorted rhythm guitar going on besides dreamer. Sure he's soloing on almost every track, but the rhythm behind most of those tracks dont have that "umph" that his rawrer tracks like bambi, im yours etc have.
chill..prince doesnt like men being front row, makes it hard to sing the ballads

Maybe Mr. Prince should try tracking down that Jamie Starr guy. Jamie Starr had some pretty impressive production output. cool

Hell to the naw! He didn't let anyone else produce him back when there were good producers. He sure as hell don't need anyone else producing him in this day and age of shit hop. And judging by some of his recent tracks, he's doing a pretty good job of selling out all by himself so he don't need no help.
Andy is a four letter word.

Taking the stage is a lot different than producing an entire album that would get the most out of a complex artist like Prince. P is not Fergie. I haven't heard all of Will's stuff, but what I have heard has been sophmoric, crass, market-driven juvenile pop jingles.

If P would try the experiment of an outside producer, it should be someone who could pull out his strengths such as brilliant songwriting. Can you imagine Will I Am getting any SOTT type stuff from him. I think not. I wouldn't mind seeing him further collaborate with Meshell Ndgeocello again.

No, I think I might throw up if I heard Prince get produced by some1 else.

I mean, as much as I love Mark Ronson @ the moment, I can't think of a worse combination.

But I am glad nobody mentioned Timbaland!
