a simple case of technology then and technology now

The Paisley Park extended is biggest victim of this. You can hear where the tape is spliced. ( A bit off topic but the Time's 'I don't wanna leave U' At the end is worst offender of bad tech , actually ' If the Kid can't make you come' as well.)

There's a weird double snare hit in "Purple Rain" that is sloppy, around the 6:12 mark. Irks me ever since I first heard it 25 years ago. There's also a part in "The Ladder" that is an obvious edit. "America" going mono is annoying too. It's been SO long since I've listened to "Paisley Park" extended, it'd be new to me all over again at this point.

A friend of mine recently mixed a few different live versions of a class jam groove from Prince to make an hour long version of "Days Of Wild" which is easily my favorite extended mix by a long mile.

He also doubled the length of "The War", which also slams in a very cool sort of way.

Mountains. In fact, my reaction to that song was always, "meh shrug " until I heard the extended.

I had the same reaction to Mountains too...until I heard the extended version. Wish I could say the same for Glam Slam and Grafitti Bridge. Those songs are beyond "meh shrug " to me, still. What I love about P though is that it sometimes takes years for a song to move me when it didn't before. Although there are just some songs that don't do it for me. As it should be.

I think I remember Paisley Park extended and others with that problem too. But I could be misremembering...

-Hello

This list is closest to my own, although I don't enjoy the extended version of LRC as much as I used to and I never liked the 12" of Raspberry Beret which, although by Prince, was really more of a remix than a straight-forward extended version. Same went for the New Dance mix of Pop Life (I love the Extended Version) and the Paisley Park 12" where the ending is just to weird for me.

Glam Slam was a (Shep Pettibone) remix so although I love it I don't think it counts.

I also love Shockadelica and I Wish U Heaven, or at least Part 3 which is just amazing.

America is possibly the bravest but I edited it down to just over 10 minutes for my own consumption by cutting out the wandering keyboard solos - I just can't hack them. I've basically left in the first 6 minutes (you cannot beat that guitar squiggle for pure fun) and then cut to the guitar solo which rocks out quite nicely smile

Someone else mentioned the funky bass line at the end of Mountains. I remember playing that over and over again when I first got it, just the last 3 or so minutes. Absolutely fantastic.

For overall pop-funk energy, U Got The Look is the winner. You simply cannot beat that intro and on Ultimate the bass thumps better than ever. Fabulous!
