Mountains. In fact, my reaction to that song was always, "meh " until I heard the extended. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I'd have to disagree with "Mountains" extended being anything fun. It just never got to me. I loved the album version a bit more.
"She's Always In My Hair" is always a stand out. "Erotic City" is more and more funk on the extended. I like the extended "Anotherlover" as well. One of my favorites is "Alexa De Paris". I've just always been in love with that song. "Another Lonely Christmas" is comparable, because they're both heavy on the drum fills, etc. I think my all time favorite though would have to be "Let's Go Crazy". As much as I was raised on R&B and Soul and Disco, I just LOVED "let's go crazy" as a teenager. I guess it appealed to my Oklahoma white boy side. The guitar solos were blazing, and the extended mid section was to die for. Unreal.

The Revolution-era extendeds were my favorite, because they are actual EXTENDED versions of the song by the Prince and the band, not post-production remixes by "of the moment" remixers.
Post-Revolution, my favorite extendeds would have to be: "I Wish U Heaven" parts 1, 2, & 3 - although at the time I thought it was Prince's lame attempt to go after rappers/samplers "take this beat I don't mind" I like the cockiness/camp quality & the Blue Angel with Eric's sax punctuating the track "Thieves in the Temple" - showcasing Prince's excellent vocal arrangement skills. Runners Up (These aren't really extended, but remix): "I Hate U" quiet storm mix, "why couldn't you keep your panties on tight" LOL "The Future" William Orbit mix "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

I'm well aware of what it is, but I also believe the 12" B-side was extended. A lot of his B-sides had extended versions as well. In fact, on the UK single of "letitgo", there's a 4:54 minute version of "Alexa De Paris" listed as the "Extended Version".

A friend of mine recently mixed a few different live versions of a class jam groove from Prince to make an hour long version of "Days Of Wild" which is easily my favorite extended mix by a long mile.
He also doubled the length of "The War", which also slams in a very cool sort of way. [Edited 8/9/09 14:02pm] The right to free discussion is protected!!

Girl, because even though it's kind of lengthy I can listen to it repeatedly.

Three top my list (but this changes according to my mood):
Paisley Park (Long Version) UK release - The wigged out, distorted guitar and the insane harmonica and bird noises make this a psychedelic ear feast. She's Always In My Hair (New Mix) - The double kick drum blast at the end is fucking bonkers. Let's Go Crazy (Special Dance Mix) - The piano beatdown and throbbing middle section are experimental genius. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

YEP! I LOVED that shit! And there's some percussion that, when wearing headphones, almost sounds like someone in the other room beating on some shit. I remember "Funkytown" having a mix like that too. It's a very distant and spacial sounding thing.

On the b-side of my 12inch it says (extended version) for Alexa de Paris,so to me it counts. My choices are Alexa,Kiss,LGC and LaLaLa ..obviously judging from my avatar..lol

Most of Prince's B-sides had extended versions back then. The 7" version was the "regular" version, the 12" held a longer mix. Perhaps you should revisit your 12" collection. It's a fabulous time.

There is no studio version of Alexa de Paris shorter or longer than 4:54 - unless it is on some uber-rare bootleg. But then, had you visited your 12" collection recently, you would know that.
