Rate Come as a song.

Besides for its lyrics, how do you think it compares to this previous music? What was the inspiration for its sounds?etc.

I like the version that is not on the come cd. its kind of techno and kicks into a jazz ending. that i give a 9 out of 10. the one on the come cd i give a 7. that is a very tough scale. I love that song.

oh baby you're so good
oh baby you're so good
shut up.

I'd say either 9/10 or then give it full points.

Lyrics aside, it's got fantastic and innovative musicianship. A Hip hop beat, jazz horns, techno-style programming...and it all COMEs (a-ha!) 2gether 2 create a very interesting piece of music. But it's a thrill 2 listen 2 it with the headphones on as much as it is 2 play it at a party or with someone special.*

I Love it too and what about 18 and Over? Prince just has the most amazing Hooks and Sound Effects and Ideas. What Grooves his Groove and rocks his socks Off boy well I damn well would like to Know. I Love when he sings I got The butter For Your Muffin Just need the Keys to your Room in Come-On.

Come (album version) is one of my favorite songs. The lyrics are so nasty and the horn sections are great!

I´ll give it a 10/10.

I really don´t like the remix/techno/uptempo version, he didn´t do a good job by doing that!!!

I love the techno version of "Come".I'm sure most of us have it on bootleg. It's the version that's more of a "dance" track, very mechanical-sounding.I bet it would have been a huge club hit back in '93.

the uptempo/techno unreleased version was the original version not a remix. it is the version included in the beautiful experince video and the version he played live at all the 93 gigs. i think this is a far superior version, more inovative and new sounding.

i remember buying 'come' the album the day it came out, sticking it in my cd player, cranking up the volume... and being utterly horrified when i heard wot he had done 2 it!

i've got used 2 the alternate album version now. it most certainly isn't rubbish but just... erm... middle of the road (4 prince that is).

I think it is excellent. And thanks careydevi, as I said to El LaVisHho in an earlier thread, it's about time someone recognised Come (album and song) for the stark genius that it is.

Thanks for the info, didn´t know that. I always thought the album version of Come was the original. It was the first Come I heard, so when I first heard the techno/house style version, I thought it was really crap (still do actually).

Yes, I have seen it a couple of weeks ago. It was a very bad copy so the quality sucked. But it was pretty cool though.

I saw on the cover that Come was on there so I FF to the beginning of Come...as you know it was the house style version rolleyes

lol

We did the exact thing, with the exact resulting feelings, on the same day! (if you were in the US)

biggrin

You are so right that before it's release, I was dying for Prince to put it on a track and release it. Then he did... sigh

At least I got to rock to it live!

Phunk

10/10

This song is the cream of the crop, the crop being all of the songs on Come, Chaos & Disorder, Gold Experience, and O)+>. Not since 'Get Off' had Prince ingeniously fused sex, funk, and R&B into one song like he did with 'Come'. We'd have to wait until 'Days of Wild' until his next released song as funky and sexy as 'Come'. My only problem is that Warner Bros. never released it as a single, cause it would have shot straight to the top of the charts (even if they had to edit come of it).

I rate it a 10...Sonny T was throwing down hard on the bass riff. Horn arrangements was mighty on this track. That NPG band was tight like a virgin on this one.

I'm gonna say 9.5 out of 10 for the album version. I took away .5 because of those damn slurping noises. Ewww...

For the techno version- 5 out of 10

Yes, great track, I love it!

Now to rate "Come" as a song, as opposed to rating it as a turkey dinner.

Wow. I give this song a 3/10.
Release it as a single?
No way. Not without some serious editing & remixing.
A lot of remixing.
The only song from Come worth 10/10 is Pheromone.
