Indeed, the pink-bimbo-angle was not needed. The performance of the RnR Hall of Fame was a lot more prince doing his thing.

I thought when Beyonce walked up those steps, it was like an angel coming out of the shadows. I thought she did well, held her own, and made Prince cool to a generation of kids.

agreed. But I'm not a big fan of Beyonce, It felt like we had to settle for bland appetizers while the tasty main course was right there next to them.

i don't hate it, but i don't love it either. i thought it was a pretty
solid performance but failed to understand why is was trumped up that
much. people talked about it as if prince had not performed on stage
and this was his first public performance in 20 years.

it made me think "what the hell?, where were all these 'supporters and
lovers of prince' from 1993-2003?".

can't say i totally hated beyonce. i don't like her at all but i could
stomach her during this short performance. plus, you know that prince
was the one who directed the whole thing.

Totally agree. The bit where Prince struggles to get to Beyonce's mic is embarrassing. Someone should have told her just to calm it down

Beyonce fucking ruined it. There was no chemistry between them at all.

I was not feeling the Beyonce portion either as he didn't need her up there with him!

This moment has gone down as an all time Grammy classic and is THE beginning of Prince jetting back into the mainstream.

it sucked!!!

85 grammy per4mance was wayyyyy better
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Prince doesn't need anyone up there with him. The greatest moment I ever had at a show was the ONA show in Cleveland when he came out by himself and did a few hits on the piano solo-style. It was actually that moment that brought me back to Prince after a 2 year long hiatus. Since then, I have never looked back.

I agree with Skywalkers comments... It is and will always be a major highlight in Grammy history and yes even though Beyonce is a goof ball it's still cool cause Prince is so bad-ass!
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

I liked the performance.
I think it helped spawn an interest in seeing Prince live during his Musicology concert.

I remember the years preceding this performance to be bleak for Prince musically and commercially. This was sort of the beginning of a marginal boost to his career (Musicology doing very well, and 3121 being his first #1 album this decade).

Overall that was a decent Grammy year --- I liked several of the musical performances that night. It was surprisingly better than dull.

I think it was backwards:

PR is HIS song
He is a legendary musician

Why did they have HER coming out mid-song as if she was the legend??

BUT Prince did say that they ask him every year to perform and that he only agreed to do it that year if he could perform with her.

I thought Beyonce did a good job of performing the song with him, but I don't think it was really necessary. Seems Prince wanted to do something with her, but it made him look strangely stationary!! lol

Here's the thing...

WE, the Prince fans, saw that as just another great performance....it's what we've become conditioned to from Prince.

However, the community, meaning Joe Public, saw it in a different light. Prince rocked their worlds because they hadn't seen him in so long.

It's the epitome of "Absence makes the Heart grow fonder"....

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I think having Beyonce there with him made him water down the funk so she could hang with him. I would have loved it if they got some of the women he worked with in the past ot perform with him. It would have been cool to see Jill Jones, Wendy & Lisa, Sheila E., Mavis Staples, Taja Sevelle do a medley of his stuff with his band then for him to come out and rock it with them all.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I wasn't particularly fond of Beyonce (who came out of nowhere, as though she was comparable 2 P), but if it was what he desired, I suppose it was better than havin' some other commercially watered-down musician per4m next 2 him.

The awards shows try to pair up acts to fit more into the time slot and get a bigger audience. You windup with these supposedly honest collaborations (Prince/Beyonce, The Time/Rihanna, Tina Turner/Beyonce, Elton John/Eminem). It's already a cliche and overdone.
