I just like how Michael Jackson sang a few lines, then spent himself backwards fast enough to break the sound barrier, then whispered to James like call that bitch up here let's see what he's got lol

I didn't notice until after a couple times of watching it, but as P is coming out, he throws his glove into the audience and someone throws it back.

The spot with MJ always did seem kid of rehearsed to me, but the fact that he vanishes once he tells James that Prince is there is hilarious. Definitely an odd and slightly cringe-inducing clip.

To this very day, I still think Michael Jackson did that shit on purpose! My thoughts are, he saw Prince earlier, could tell he was "inebriated" from something and consciously wanted Prince to embarrass himself in front of James Brown!

I really cannot see any other reason for him getting James Brown to call Prince to the stage! James Brown didn't even know Prince was there or who he was. When Michael is whispering in his ear the first time, JB clearly says, "Who?" Then Michael explains, insists and convinces him to call Prince up and he does because he loved Michael and that is what Michael asked of him. He clearly would not have called Prince up to the stage otherwise!

When Prince gets up there, JB tells him that he has to do something, meaning JB didn't know exactly, what it was that he does! Prince grabs a guitar and makes it do what he can make it do! JB is mildly impressed. Then Prince goes into his "Prince" shtick taking off his jacket and all but by the time he kicks the mic stand, JB style, JB has his back turned talking to his band and misses it!

Michael loses massive points with me, whenever I see that video! After seeing that video. I could see that Michael could be very cold and calculating, when he wanted to be! I still respect him as an artist and I did indeed cry when he died but that just never set right with me and now that he's gone...it most certainly won't!

MJ was very smart. Eddie Murphy started off telling bad jokes about MJ and ending up acting his fantasies out while singing "Whazuwitu" with MJ.

Chris Tucker. Calypso Louie. Eddie Griffin. MJ used pimp tactics and made them all allies after being enemies. (Or a least guys who had routines or Nation Of Idiot speeches about him. Enemies is a bit extreme.)

A few years earlier our friend Mr. Nelson met MJ and family at a dinner at the family home and he was trying to go after some of that Bobby DeBarge activity with LaToya.

So MJ HAD to call him up onstage with JB.

It's nothing personal. Just business baby.

Oh really now! By all means, do please explain to me exactly why you see it that way? I happen to know that the Jackson family was not at all, too happy about Prince's little episode of "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner"! So make me see, what exactly it is that you see, that makes you think that Michael HAD to call him up on stage with James Browm?

Like you said the "calculating" or competitive part of MJ's personality.

Prince was an asshole to Michael during the infamous "ping-pong battle". Could this embarrassing JB/MJ/P performance and video be the catalyst for the back-and-forth "competition" between the two? Or did the ping-pong match happen first?

The thing that annoys me about that video is that it seems like Jackson had maybe rehearsed it with James before hand or knew what was going on because he knew thoses changes like the inside of his glove. He then whispers in James's ear to get Prince up there probably knowing Prince was not going to top that and...he didn't. Prince looked stupid.
But it's probably one of the reasons Prince never really wanted to coloborate with him. Anyway blah blah

Actually MJ used to send Prince rare vids in the post of James as he knew how much he liked them too. I think Michael liked Prince's music alot and just wanted him to get up there and share the moment too, I think Michael and Prince were both nervous and it came out in different ways.

I watched it once and it was painful. I could never watch it again nor tell anyone about it. I think Prince wanted to impress so much that he tried so hard and just did a bad job. Although by now he's defitnitely redeemed himself.

I thought the ping pong incident was before this, but whatever..this was a horrible display for him.he was to drugged up to do anything and the prop falling on him as he left was somewhat fitting.

The ping pong game was when P was filming or maybe editing "Under A Cherry Moon". Prince had Sherilyn Fenn there and MJ was flirting with her.

Sad but true.

And I don't think it was staged at all. I do think MJ was a bit shy about getting up on stage and he just sings a few lines then when the beat hits he just dances pulling out the trusty old Moonwalk as well.

I always thought him telling James that Prince was there was a nod of respect, like you can't call me up and not bring up P. Then Prince fell into his default of wanting to play guitar and blow the stage away. Like Fantasticjoy said wanting to impress too much and trying too hard.

It's all forgiveable until that lamp post moment. Cringe.

Still what a chance to see all on one stage at once huh?

I thought it was great. That band was great to be able to hit those symbols right on time every time Prince clapped his hands considering that it was a spontaneous unrehearsed moment. It was also great to see Prince either drunk or high.

Prince...even "high as a kite" still kicked MJs ass. He was raw...himself and at least delivered more than 15 seconds of spinning like MJ.

Oh and by the way Prince is still alive...so whos the drug addict.

People insist he was fucked up in the video, they forget he was 'Prince' back then, and so he was staying in bizarre persona.

He should have done more, yes, but he was doing that whole 'alien' thing at the time, so his whole intention was to be like 'WTF!?!'

That Prince wasn't trying to endorse an 'oldies review.'
Unfortunately, he seems to have become one.
